What is wrong with Rivers? He seems to be on the dreaded 426.

Obviously T Mc for Petty.

TMc will probably get a 2027 contract as well for depth at season end..

I think we need to bring in a key back next year either by trade or free agent with may gone and adams struggling. If lever or turner goes down we are in trouble.

In. Lindsay McDonald

Outs. Petty (concussion) Laurie

While I’m a fan of TMac, I would rather play one of younger guys than him. Also would leave Laurie in for 2-3 more weeks so he gets 4-5 games - I’m not a Laurie fan but give him enough games to see what he can do!

I wasn’t mad about Tholstrup or Sharp last year but both have significantly improved this year. Sharp didn’t get a lot of the ball yesterday but when he did was very damaging vs last year disposal was poor. Also great to see Roo deliver on the big stage!

King is backing the kids and they are rewarding him! One of the posters pre game compared the Lions bench to ours and then add 12 Demons hadn’t played 50 games, when you take into account those facts it was a remarkable win!

We are still running 4 tall defenders Disco/Howes/XT/Lever, all over 190cm. Do Richmond provide a genuine match up for TMAC?

The week after we have the Swans, again no direct match up for TMAC. Reality is that if TMAC has no direct match up with another older tall forward he is a liability on transition defence.

We should get Lindsay back on the defensive wing, and keep Kolt and Langdon at HB.

Is this a joke? Gawn spent more time on the bench because of Heath. T.Mac has been a warrior but he's cooked won't get a game again and if Petty wasn't concussed he'd be dropped woeful game again.

Is which bit a joke?

My own personal opinion from being at the ground is that Gawn looked sick/injured and not his normal self.

We’ve generally tried to maintain structure and so the only replacement for Petty is TMac.

The like for like from Casey is Jed Adams. Jed's form at Casey has not been great. If match ups allowed you could consider AMW.

CJ and Rivers will come into the defensive mix on their return.

We have recruited so many tall forward playing types that we somewhat neglected our backline depth. There's definitely an opening if one of Kentfield, Jefferson or Johnson were prepared to have a go at Casey down back. Last year Fullarton played down back before being delisted. He was showing some good signs but apparently not enough.

The AFL listed midfielders at Casey are very few as well so let's hope we don't see any injuries to those in the senior team.

The Heath/Gawn conundrum remains beyond my tactical brain.

Out: Petty, Laurie, Jefferson

In: Luker, Big Mac, Lindsay

Definitely keep Jeffo in: showed glimpses against the reigning back to back premiers so against the very likely wooden spooners he should be able to build his form and confidence

We are playing the wooden spooners who have a lot of players out. Also our first Friday night game and Anzac eve makes it a huge game.

Perfect time to get big game experience into some of our younger guys, no way I’d be dropping Taylor and Jeffo.

Nothing will come of it Mihocek knocked him out and that was an accident. Kossie has nothing to worry about.

Rhyan Mansell last year against St Kilda got 3 weeks. Brace yourself

Also no way I’d drop Heath. If we do get the game on our terms we can then reduce Gawns minutes in second half and/or have him rest forward.

Less game time in this game followed by a 9 day break would be as good as a bye for the big guy.

Think some of the selections against Brisbane took into account the 5-day break (i.e. resting Lindsay and including Heath).

I think we still have a few passengers and King said we might have some players coming back. I expect a few changes despite the great win.

Taylor had an ordinary debut and looks off the pace. He will be better for the experience but isn't ready yet.

Jefferson isn't clutch enough and doesn't make the most of limited opportunities.

Laurie doesn't have AFL qualities.

Heath needs to get strong enough to bully his opponent in the ruck if he is going to make it because he is not very skilful. I think he only got a game to make sure Max gets through the short break.

Petty was terrible before injury and is too slow for the backline.

Rivers, Bowey, Lindsay, CJ, Melksham and Salem will all make us better. Viney and Cross could also be around the mix. Kentfield has some good attributes, even though he is slow. AMW has some ability.

From a list perspective, an elite full back and another gun midfielder are the key pieces we are missing.

Jeffo was awesome yesterday. Competed in the air, took some nice marks and really surprised me how good he was when the ball was on the deck.

I don’t think we need a tall in for Petty for the tigers, I’d go XL for petty.

That was a push wasn't it?

Jeffo had a player rating of 1.6, which was just above Heath (who played just 27% game time) and Laurie. He was the only Demon to miss a set shot (kicking out on the full). Playing Jeffo meant that Fritsch played on the wing and while he played ok, Fritsch was down on his average.

Um just NO!

if kozzie is suspended for a shoulder to shoulder bump, which accidentally caused the player to fall into another player and hit his shoulder, I'll throw up.

I thought Jeffers had a few good leads to space where another Melbourne player marked instead uncontested. Got seperation and could have had more shots had the kicks carried to him.

Also, just a sneaky one from Casey, mentha had a lot of drive from half back. Not a superb user but his pace looked a real weapon. Maybe not immediate but a chance to push for a spot.

With Petty going out, it may help Xavier Taylor hold his spot, despite being our least impactful player. So XL in for Petty. And if any of Rivers, Salem, CJ or Bowie ready, them XT out for them.

Reckon out three tall forward with three crumbers works well and our midfield is gelling well.

Are they putting petty on the concussion train?

Or still assessing what’s going on?

King said “we will see over the next 24 hours”.

Anyone know what’s going on there?

Either way, I’d sit him. Keep Taylor and Heath and Jefferson in. Get some experience into them. It also gives Gawny a break. Heath can ruck against whoever Richmond has.

If Picket is suspended, I don’t think will do anything in this match up.

This could be another bombers game though where we underestimate. Still have to go out there and hit them hard. Get some much needed percentage.

Yes

In the first quarter either of Jeffo or Mihochek were well free to take a mark from an excellent kick ?. I noticed that Jeffo's shoulders slumped a little when the mark was taken by Mihochek.

To me it's a balance issue. Is he adding something as a forward that Fritsch does not? Strangely enough he and Kentfield might be challenged by Mathews for a forward spot going forward.

Very pleased to see Sharp beginning to cement a spot in that bottom six

If Jefferson is leading to where a teammate is on his own - that is not a good thing.

In fact it is what JVR is learning - and Mihocek knows innately as the best forward at the club.

The great goal Chandler from the flank was possible because he slipped out and JVR stopped his lead to that flank to get Harris Andrews to hesitate on where the footy would go. Culley (who seemed to have eyes in the back of his head) U-turned and then spotted him up.

Jefferson presented well on occasion and if he can push Fritsch up the ground for periods then that means he is playing his role. Happy to give him a month block of games but I haven’t seen anything special yet in terms of his movement and forward craft.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
