POSTGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane

Make him watch Max tackling Ashcroft on repeat for a week.

I'm still bullish on Windsor. His tackling this year, overall, has been good. I have commented on it on multiple occasions when watching our R1-5 games. I haven't yet watched this Brisbane game, but will catch the replay tonight. If he has had a bad one for some reason, he's young, that happens, he will continue to improve and add strength. If there was to be a knock on him, it would be disposal, not tackling. Not sure whether that's fixable or not. But if we keep playing run-n-gun then maybe that's not going to be such a problem?

The second of our Pickets, is to tying in really well, I love jus run, and the bounces. He also looks for options like the pass to jvr rather than a shot from the boundary. And the pair working together is magic stuff. Pleased with the win. Unexpected !

After yesterdays game

When we meet them in the GF (stop laughing) at least we will not be intimidated. Now you can laugh

Kingy taking accountability for the loss against the bombers saying focussed on outcome vs process, refreshing to hear and giving players licence, sure 6 games in but seems so positive, Heath should be perceived with to assist with Gawns longevity

I don’t mind listening to GH when we are up and about because you can tell how much it pains him and just how hard he is trying not to say anything positive about us.

Yes it’s petty but I’ve got a long memory.

Yeah, nah - he is a [censored] and I’d use an AI filter to transform his commentary into his loyal brother’s. That would be Sugar sweet.

Along with everything else our goal kicking accuracy is much improved. We kicked 16.4 (4 knocked through for behind) which is a great conversion rate.

Helped by quite a few goals from very close and even in the goal square.

Not sure why all the anger about Gerard Healy, as he is accurate and actually praised us several times during the commentary.

Would take him any day, over the ocker screeching of Kelly Underwood.

True too.

Haven't read through the thread so this might’ve been hashed already - but is anyone else suss on the Petty incident?

No sign of concussion / concussion symptoms at all until after that horrible turnover.

I don’t know, just seems weird.

I was suspect at first,,,,But after watching the full replay, Howes was concerned straight away as Petty sort of just stumbled to one side. Clearly he had delayed concussion symptoms. He will be out for few weeks.

You can see why we went for Trelly.

While not a high possession winner (yet) his run breaks lines and sets up opportunities for us.

With Kozzie and Sharp too, we now have the pace we missed.

Another quality mid would really improve us.

Gerard Healy’s quality of analysis deteriorated 5 years ago. He interrupts others and goes off on tangents, he focuses on stats but doesn’t always understand them, and he waffles on far too much.

Fox had the smarts to move on from Derm this year, it should be Gerard next year.

My memory. Might be wrong. Is that GH had a very good year for the Dee’s and we were the up n coming side. But he left for the dollars, turned his back on the Dee’s and went to Sydney . Consequently we had a poor year after he left. We really needed good skills and commitment and he left ! Eff him !

On another note, imo the best new expert comment commentator is Ken Hinkley.

Not sure what to make of that after Essendon last week. Brisbane had almost double the number of marks as us, which would suggest they completely controlled the game, and yet we kicked sixteen goals! Sixteen! And some of them were the result of such attractive running footy! To my eyes we also got thrashed at centre bounces, but it didn't seem to matter.

Someone mentioned in the week our system wasn't all that much different from last year. To me, it looks like chalk and cheese.

Would it be fair to say Howes had Cameron and Tholstrup had Raynor for most of the day? If so, two really good defensive games. I thought the whole backline was strong after looking so brittle against Essendon.

The MCG is becoming a fun place to visit again!

Tom Morris on SEN this morning reckons Kozzie Pickett will get off.

Well what a great day to be at the G yesterday, noisy, happy, sunny warmish 19.5oC, large Dee Army in full swing, hearing, watching and clapping Jim’s Irish jig 16 times absolutely brilliant atmosphere. The crowd around us in the Warne Stand so noisy. Three of us trained it in, more Lions than Demons on our train from Mernda and had to wait for three trains at Jolimont before we could squeeze our way on to get home last night.

Kingy’s boys were on start to finish and what a game it was lead changed 10 times and every player contributed to our great win, just a shame Petty took that kick in when he was a bit befuddled, I could name the whole side. We got home late and I was a bit cooked but watched the replay rught through, how good were our boys and the Crowd.😁👍👌

I agree. I like Kenny. He reminds me of talking to someone leaning over the fence at a local footy game, and I find it quite refreshing. He’s knowledgeable, but with a focus doing the hard things.

He absolutely should get off but there seems to be a big fat grey area on where ‘football act’ ends and ‘duty of care’ begins. I can easily see the fact he chose to bump and the outcome of a concussion getting a week.

Tá mé an-sásta gur thóg mé beirt de mo pháistí liom go dtí an cluiche peile inniu. Bhíomar ann ag caitheamh geansaí glas le haghaidh Jimmy in éineacht le cairde a leanann na Leonaí as Brisbane. Tar éis an cluiche i gcoinne na Bombers, cheap mé nach mbeidh an lámh in uachtar ag na Diabhaill inniu. Ach le beagáin ádh linn, bhí cluiche iontach ann agus bhí craic den scoth againn ag béiceadh agus ag tacaíocht an foireann dearg is gorm abú! 💙❤️☘️🇮🇪🇦🇺🏉

We were all thinking it!

Lip reading, I thought Petty said “I’m effed, I can’t see” to Howes

Just wondering whether he had a mini stroke? They can affect eyesight.

If only they could become like the Krakouer brothers.....

Some Telstra Tracker stats

Total Sprints = 23 (1st)
Repeat Sprints 4 (=2nd)
Work rate (Average Speed in Attack) = 8.7km p/h = (3rd)

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
