Don’t disagree & I wouldn’t imagine both of those players will get a game off - especially if they continue to perform, they just provide so much for the team.

Jefferson had a better statistical game thank Kentfield, but I think Kentfields game translates to the AFL better than Jefferson (he can second ruck) but he’s a much better body on body forward than Jefferson + he’s a better kick than Jefferson. I don’t disagree that you need to get games for these guys + want to get games into these guys, it just might not be at a rate of 10 or 5 in a row, but 2 or 3…

Probably premature to say Luker (or Jeffo) get x number of games. Surely if one or both fit in and perform then they could become a fixture. If they don’t then maybe only a game or two.

Something a tad more modern and also works with our current strategy of taking some risks and getting some publicity.

Ghosty can do the banner - he can teach you, but he’ll have to charge!

From personal experience, I can tell you that that’s a big NO! It was a Zoom call, and I had forgotten to put my clothes on, so I suppose that might not have helped my chances.

The problem is many posters here are actually clueless & post their dreams & wishes as evidence.

Many are still having naughty dreams about Kentfied & Jeffo. The idea that they would replace Petty is ludicrous.

Um Petty has been good but Jeffo and Kentfield offer so much more

He’s clearly not lactose intolerant then.

This is obviously a match we should win, however I just can't shake off my MFCSS ...

On This Day: Losing streak ends

The ending came 26 years ago today, at about 4:45pm on Sunday afternoon, 27 June 1993, when the final siren at the SCG signified a 40-point Swans win over Melbourne.

No Williamson this week, so that's a win.

We do have Nicholls though 🫤

Sam Draper has given me nightmares over the last couple of years in this game. I'm glad he's not playing (although it only delays the nightmare one week to the Brisbane game)

He'll probably still kick 6 against us this week

How good is this…

All three images are from Sunday’s game.

This is gonna look INCREDIBLE. He will run out to this with his kids on Saturday and what a moment it will be. I’m so happy for our Melks ❤️💙

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first game so far this season that we've gone in as clear favourites?

Without wanting to go full MFCSS, I've seen way too many Melbourne teams of the past drop these games. Look no further than our loss against the Bombers in 2016 when they wheeled out a team of top up veterans and VFL players and managed to knock us off after a great win against GWS the week before.

I'll be fascinated to see how Kingy approaches the preparation with the players this week.

Hope Melk kicks a bag for game no.250.

We were favourites against Carlton

We were until a few hours before game time - they Blues actually started favs (just) in the end.

But blimey, i can't recall the lasts time we started as short as we are against the Bombers - ATM we're 1.24 to win this game, and the bombers are 4.10 (from memory we were very short against the Roos early last season, but I'm pretty sure we weren't as short as 1.24)

I always check the tracker on the AFL app as it's the only publicly available GPS data I can find, or any data for that matter, that gives me any sense of our running power and fitness (though i reckon pressure ratings are a reasonable proxy - ours, like Calton's this year routinely was our lowest in the last quarter last season, which i think reflected out lack of fitness).

We had the top 5 players for average speed in defence against the suns (confusing name - defence in this context means when the opponent has the ball, not in the defensive half).

That's a great indication of our all team defensive gut running and spread - critical for defending turnover generally, and in this match of how we denied them space and put pressure on players receiving handballs.

Nor surprisingly Langers had the highest average speed when the Suns had the ball (8.7 kms per hour) and Sharp equal second (8.5 kms per hour).

But I have to say i was super suprised who was equal second - Harvey.

By the by, the xext two were Kolt (8.4) and Laurie (8.3)

This side does not stop running, bruv 😂

That’s a different argument, and no they don’t

Are you Patrick Voss by any chance

Brad Scott was part of a 17 game record winning streak against the MFC when he was coach of North Melbourne. Unfortunately for him, nobody beats Melbourne 18 times in a row. Least of all North Melbourne.

Ironically, Melbourne now has an opportunity to extend Essendon's VFL/AFL record losing streak to 18 with the same Brad at the helm.

I feel sick for this game… probably because the last 2 times we’ve played Essendon in gather round where we’ve been predicted to win we’ve lost. What’s with us playing them at gather round 😅

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
