Langford had a very quiet game. Watched him closely on the replay and he was cruising.

hmmm. Young player but I hope the coaches have a word

Was strange wasn’t it. Sometimes you have those days on the wing. He is very slow, didn’t really bother him last year but it’s still something I’ve got an eye on

I mean he never played van rooyen consistently & he'd put him in the ruck, petty he kept forward & he never gave koltyn much of a go.

I really don't get these kinds of comments. JVR himself admitted that he wasn't playing well last year, and he even became a bit of a whipping boy here. Playing a key forward in the ruck is fairly standard AFL fare.

Petty played forward because a) we had May, Disco, Tom Mac and Lever available down back and b) we badly needed a big-body foil for JVR, Jefferson and co - a role which is now taken by Mihocek.

As for Tholstrup, he came straight into the team Round 6 after his stress fracture without having to pass by the VFL, and kept being played even when he was only getting single figure disposals. There were also reports that he was read the riot act at his exit interview in terms of his attitude and preparation. Given all that, not sure of where "not getting much of a go" came from, from the outside looking in I'd tend to say the reverse.

I get it, the coach and a few others were moved on, but the Goodwin-bashing here is both tiresome and superficial. He was maybe not the right coach to be taking us forward, but as JVR summed up recently:

"Goody was such a good coach for so long, and I think Kingy’s done really well to come in and hold on to what makes us a great footy club, while also bringing aspects of his coaching style."

He'll be fine, in his second year and there were plenty performing. Sometimes it's just how it works that the team overall does well and some find it difficult to impact.

I reckon St Kilda sneezed on him when they were running out onto the ground.

Not to highjack the thread, but as Binman, Andy and George mention "music" in the pod.

I'd ike to give a shout-out to Six6Six, who orchestrated the following to which we produced an orchestral version at https://on.soundcloud.com/KOD6ADv2jgmjsjW2QI

I can imagine hearing this loud at the G - playing this original track. I'd like to propose supporting Six6Six as a dedicated fan - in the emotive intent.

Onya Six6Six for a great sentiment towards the club.

Hoping the team rally to get this heard, at some point, at the G.

Go Dees!

The only real negative about this game I thought was our backline which conceded over 100 points and a few defenders were ordinary.

Yes but perhaps can be excused. First game after interrupted practice match, hot day, fast footy. I was surprised they weren't more gassed tbh. NAS and TDK certainly were.

I suspect we will see this a few times as our focus has shifted somewhat to attacking footy rather than the contest / stoppage game of the past.

I do like the fact King called for a 'save the game' approach after Fritsch's goal so hopefully we have some momentum stopping modes we can engagae should teams get a run on .

I reckon 100pts is the new 80pts.

All teams seem to be looking to score more heavily.

Tis now.

Come round 6 or 90 will be the new 80 i reckon

Scoring will settle

Swallow might do more than we notice, however has not gone to the level expected. To my eye he is inconsistent and now regarded a senior player.

Bahhh haha...missed that

James Hird mentioned on today's edition of Footy Furnace (channel 9 streaming show) the following:

"Melbourne internally are quietly confident they're a top 8 team this year"

Make of that what you will.

It’s perfectly reasonable for the club to lay that as the minimum expectation, especially now it’s a top 10. Beat the clubs you should beat, beat most of those around you and pinch a couple against the best, there’s 10-14 wins in that. I’m aiming for 6-7th

Quiet, but we will tell James Hird…

There’s no need to speculate with disgraced former Matty Whelan bump recipients; the first 6 weeks will tell the FD where it is at.

1-0 heading into Freo (A), Carl, GC, Ess (N), Rich

Be 4-2 or better and talk to random so-so commentators about quiet confidence

I wish the posters continually bringing up the past can take a leaf out of Kingy’s book “ I’m not here to talk about the past…I’m all about these boys & what’s ahead” (paraphrasing)”

A big shout out to DavisJarra on YouTube for his assessment of MFC and on how we have changed as a club from the top-down and how impressive it looks. He is not a Dees supporter but boy he knows his stuff. It’s a brilliant video.

Winners are grinners, right?

Nobody ever gets beaten by the opposition - it's the umpires, the weather, a virus, the bus was late, a short week, a long week, we had a bye, they had a bye, the boots had the wrong studs etc etc etc (think John Belushi to Carrie Fisher in the Blues Brothers).

Let the baby have it's rattle.

Don't forget loading! 😉

I wonder if last season goody just ran out of ideas or plans.

I mean he never played van rooyen consistently & he'd put him in the ruck, petty he kept forward & he never gave koltyn much of a go.

I mean I'll be grateful for the journey he took us on & I know it's just 1 game, but maybe the breakup came at the right time.

Seriously his Gameplan was done at the end of 2023, nothing changed after that for 2 Seasons. Tweaks were made apparently, but the same game was played.
King has made radical changes in 2 months...

Still a lot of work to do, but now we know what to expect

What a great day to be at the “G”, very warmish conditions, we had our grandson with us at the game. Great to see everyone on L2, a lot of excited conversations and hello’s, picked up my coffee and pie on the way in. Jeez what a game of footy, fast and furious, Saints are hard to play when they have ball in hand lots of short kicks, handballs and marks and We are impossible to play when we get our run on game going. The Demon Army were loud and boisterous lots of flags, Heads and that drum beat WOW. We are super fit and played great team football. Roooooo and Mihocek were both brilliant in their own way, Max humongous, our four debutantes all fired, Kolt, Culley and Sharp were a revelation and the rest of the boys played like a reasonably well oiled machine (thanks Penrite), the music got better and louder as the day wore on, must admit I think it was when Sharp or Fritta kicked their sealers Sweet Caroline came on and all around us joined in. All in all a great day at the “G”, what a win.❤️💙👌💕

Sharpie is forgiven for choosing Sweet Caroline as his post-goal song. 😅 We tweaked it though. Instead of “So Good, so good, so good” it’s now “So Sharp, so Sharp, so SHARP!”

"The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there" .. L.P. Hartley (The Go Between).

I'm quietly confident hirdy oversaw a hidden and systematic doping programme, but he doesnt think so

Hey friends, I wrote about our new look for this week's edition of This Week In Football.

I've also developed a tool for displaying all kicks into F50 for the year, which you can find here: https://charting.football/i50/

Once you select the filters you want, you can hit the copy link button and it will copy a custom url to your clipboard that will pre-fill those settings, so if I wanted to show you all the kicks into 50 from Sunday targetting Checkers I could go: https://charting.football/i50/?matchName=2026%20R1%20-%20MEL%20v%20STK&target=Brody%20Mihocek
