GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda

Just got off the tram and on foot to the G!

Excited!

Our win over North is looking better

They are beating Port by 4 goals at HT

Are we there yet?

Is this the thread where we have a political rant? Or is this the thread where we talk about the mighty Dees? Some posters continually push political ideologies and biases and I'm tired of the distraction.

I would not be surprised if we have a stirring victory today playing exciting free flowing footy. I don't care what some posters think about the state government.

Just looks it up and there’s been ONE game since 2016 that didn’t feature either one of Petracca, Oliver and Viney. Round 24, 2024.

It’s going to look very different.

Go Dees!

Just arrived at the game, open up the footy record, look at the team photo on page 15 and I swear to God, I see Jeff White there. Of course, it must be Kalani. But the resemblance is astonishing.

Would have played Moose today!

With you on this Picket. Watched the Hawks game and their 2 rucks dominated and worked over the young ruck from Bombers. Would have been good for Gawn and Moose to work over TDK in similar fashion. This aside I reckon we will win this.

Anyone know who the sub is?

Have we switched change rooms? Thought we usually come out of the ramp closest to MCC, but the decals are the other way around.

Yep

New rules - teams just have 5 doms on the bench now.

Yep & I don't like it

Do we really need 'fan engagement' cams and quizzes every 5 minutes before the bounce?

If you hate the pregame nonsense there’s a simple solution.

Get yourself a reserve seat. I rock up 2 minutes before the bounce. Happy days.

We just bought in one player who:

  • is ranked as the AFL's most reliable target inside 50, marking 90% of his leads. This was the highest rate in the competition among players with at least 15 leads.

  • the Leading Goalkicker goal kicker at Collingwood's for five consecutive seasons (2019–2023).

  • has averaged approximately 1.7 to 2.1 goals per game over recent seasons (2023–2025), maintaining a career average of 1.7 goals per match.

And another player who:

  1. has maintained an elite tackling profile for nearly a decade. In the 2025 season, he ranked 2nd in the AFL with an average of 8.7 tackles per game.

  2. is a dual All-Australian & Best and Fairest.

  3. achieved the High Disposal Efficiency as a tagger while playing a defensive "run-with" role, recorded a phenomenal 97% disposal efficiency from 33 disposals.

And six exciting players drafted in the first round entering their second, third or fourth seasons.

And 13 players who have played in a premiership.

I'm expecting a win.

And I hope you right!

That's the spirit.

I never tip on hope, remember they beat us twice last year, the second when we were 46 points in front at 3/4 time.

Just got to some seats in the Southern Stand. Feeling good about this game.

Can see us winning comfortably by 35points and St Kilda fans walking home disappointed and questioning another mediocre rebuild.

GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!

Annoyed at changing the race we come out of. Now we come out next to the opposition cheer squad instead of in the middle of the mcc which is mostly us. Silly

Yes. The one we’re running out of as I type is wider and has more signage. But I’d prefer we were emerging from within the heart of the MCC like we used to.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
