NON-MFC: Round 01

Featured Replies

McGovern loves a flop, still remember him trying to flop against melky couple of years ago.

Tigers losing it through abysmal ball use.

Oh Cripps that is an atrocious set shot kick from naff-all distance.

pretty sloppy display, should be closer but richmond lacking a lot of polish trying to finish off their work.

Definite lack of class all over the ground. A very B grade game with no real appeal, and few big exciting moments. If the Tigers stop making horrible decisions forward of centre, and clean up their ball use, the game becomes much more even. The Blues look good in transition but their forward play is dull.

This is the thursday night kick off to round 1?

Meanwhile Dogs v Giants is on at 1pm on Sat

horrible fixturing

This is the problem the AFL has now. It’s too beholden to the broadcasters data. So they know that a horrible Carlton or Essendon game will get big ratings numbers, regardless of how poor it is.

It’s starting to become diminishing returns though. There’s no growth in a consistently poor spectacle.

Carlton have 5 Thursday or Friday night games in the first 6 rounds. Last year they had a 1 win and 11 loss record against the top 10 teams. They are poor by any measure, yet they get served up, no matter how bad they are.

Lynch ruined the momentum

Yze should drop him for that

I'd love to drop Lynch. Can't stand the pr**k

Grilj is exciting to play, shame we didn’t go for him.

Certainly not suggesting our picks weren’t good picks but he’s great to watch. Fast and bold.

Imagine letting poor kicking see you lose a game against a team like Carlton..............sorry

2.10 this Q between the two teams

bottom 6 stuff

Tigers should be well in front, but the Blues are horrid. Surely neither of these 2 see finals in 2026.

Both Cripps and Lynch had opportunities to lead through example and both failed.

Watching 2 of the bottom 4 teams shocking

Lynch the momentum killer misses easy goals!

Broncos/Eels match is a beauty

Tigers/Blues tightened up scoring wise in the 2nd half

TV for footy, NRL laptop

Edit: Eels win after copping an absolute hiding last week from the Storm

How can the two rookies for each side be the highest ranked players (by fantasy) players on the field?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
