NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Trac is playing at his absolute peak again. Absolute gun. Well done him, but very difficult to watch now. And all of a sudden he can kick (or is that a reflection on the lack of pressure from the Cats?) Getting a bit lippy too.

So trac on kings birthday last year could not hit a handball target in the dying stages but suddenly can kick 3 goals tonight.

This Geelong team just looks so different, I know danger & cameron are missing but gee they look slow.

Anyway game over & I've switched off

I hear ya. But i wouldn’t read much into it. The cats are beyond farcicle … undoubtedly not ready for the season

It’s a training run.

not a good night for death riding

but seeing the cats lose by 100 points more than makes up for that

turn the screw Suns

They've only mentioned he's a Norm Smith medallist 73 times so far.

Far out he looks 2 metres quicker...lost weight.

And actually bulleting passes inside 50... hasn't done that for us in 3 years

Let’s get rid of him !

I reckon Geelong punted this game away at selection by not risking Danger and Cameron. And then their application, structure, desire and skill level has followed suit.

No way they’re this bad. Watch them flick the switch next week and comfortably beat Freo at home.

Seeing the video of the Geelong box, with both him and Chris Scott looking all sulky is like 2 for the price of one!!

Game over. Only thing to look forward to is Chris Scott’s press conference. Too much to hope that he does a joint one with Figjam?

he wanted to go

mac andrew just dropped another mark by the way

Round zero, long season to go, hard to watch Trac, but that’s the game as long contracts mean jack, players have the upper hand…

Buckley is having a huge impact

Body language in the box does not look good. Two very big egos

i'm disappointed the suns have taken their foot off the throttle

The women's test match is fascinating right now. sanghare bowling for India really well.

Hope Alyssa Healy gets a ton for her last match. She's been an absolute champ

Raffle between the Suns, Lions, and Swans for the flag this year. All three have incredible lists.

He wanted out…

Yeah, understood

So he wanted out and on top of that, he's now rubbing our nose in it (a kind of justification for moving clubs per se)

Back to his best, it must be said

Anyway, we'll be ok without him. We just need to get 60 to 70 games into all our young players (and that includes the upcoming 2026 draftees)

All up, we'll have a dozen or so players aged 23 or younger who will, hopefully, all turn into good players (or, at least a good percentage of the dozen or so prospects)

Reality is that at some stage we were going to have to move on from Oliver, May, Petracca, Gawn, Viney, Brayshaw, ANB et al. It's just happening a bit sooner than we thought

Buckley reprising his understudy role for when Scott finally realises Geelong is no more a finals contender.

Don’t disagree, bad luck on our side with Brayshaw, ANB, Jackson, but equally our club miss mgt culture, plenty of noise of certain players, good on King on making tough decisions

Loads of empty Suns' seats.

AFL give them everything but they still can't draw a crowd.

Commentators saying sold out stadium. I must have a very different definition of 'sold out'.

Trac just did what that leprechaun did to Gawny in the 2021 grand final.

Anyone else see it?

Please GOTD… leprechaun???? That’s an insult to us Irish folk.

Absolutely they did. There are less than a training opponent. I wouldn’t read into at all. The moment the Cats ramped up the pressure they kicked 5-6 goals straight.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
