This game is justifying 2 opinions I have formed:

  1. The SCG is a grave for decent footy.

  2. The modern game at its worst is a horrible spectacle

Add to that the ball handling skills on display, this is an embarrassment.

Sydney has always been putrid for good football. Brisbane and Geelong are second and third.

The new rule changes aren’t making things better. Wouldn’t say it’s good viewing.

I think Florent will cop a few weeks for that knee on Heeney.

good lord this a shocking game

they playing with a bar of soap?

So watching the Gilda’s play in Brisbane is better than that stuff. And we have 3 goals ascwell

Early days but 2.6.18 such a Goodwin score line

give the goodwin bashing a rest for christ sake. it's very tedious

Swans have been sloppy at times, Blues looking solid considering playing at the SCG, always a tough away gig ... interesting to see what happens in the second half ...

Agree …he def looked down at Heeney before he collected him & then he changed direction

Ground is far too small for 36 players’, allows the Swans to clog it up something shocking.

Grounds need to have a minimum length (SCG) and width (KP) rule, to allow for more open play.

Eyes on the ball. Accidental knee

Weeks would be crazy

Any player from any other team except Carlton, and it would have taken up all of the half break.

Particularly us.

Absolutely.

Looked down at Heeney, saw his head and kneed him.

Dirty act and he has given out a few already.

Thought the same

And now 3 goals in 2 minutes of play. Someone better check if Stephen Dank wasn't sharing lollies in both rooms during the break.

Just curious is it still insufficient intent inside the foreword / defensive 50m lines?

Blues dominated for 60 minutes

Swans turn up for 10 mins and the Blues are done. All they do is try to pick fights off the ball

Pathetic from Cripps

Captain can’t keep his head and gives away dumb frees

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
