Of the 26 named players, 15 are experienced types, 6 are in that unproven/midrange* area (aged 22 & 23 with not a lot of top-notch AFL games under their belts) Along with 5 youngsters

  • The Senior players need to stand up and lead the way

  • 3 or 4 of the 6 midrange players need to establish themselves

  • The youngsters need to keep progressing

*I've categorised Turner as an experienced player but have JVR in the midrange area

You can do the exercise yourself but you will come up with similar numbers

So we don't lack for experience but we do need the younger players pushing through

This is very interesting. I read Windsor and Langford in the guts as reason for excitement but also for patience. But this is a reminder that we're actually not that young. And a player like Turner, as you've pointed out, is young and has few games under his belt but has already shown himself to be reliable.

Even if the mid-range players don't establish themselves or improve like we hope, they shouldn't be getting pushed aside - at least not by the mid-level teams.

I was starting to the think a comfortable loss was on the cards tomorrow and that I should maintain low expectations throughout the season, but only because I had this misconception that "We're young". Maybe I need to be more optimistic.

Saints supporters on bigfooty talking like as if they haven't missed finals for 13 of the last 14 seasons. They are up and about and extremely confident.

I think we are stronger than them on every line. Odds are probably accurate given form.

Advice please, unexpected, rare visit to Melbourne this weekend. Ticketek only shows premier ticket options - is General admission available - how to buy? Can you buy at gate tomorrow? Wouldn’t have thought it to be a sellout?

WIth only 50k expected you should be buy to buy tix at the ground

There should also be a Melbourne van there selling 3 game memberships for $120 which is not much more than a single game ticket. Help build our membership base!

i personally would be pretty impressed if there was 50,000 there

their home game at docklands last year - 22,570
our home game at the g in 2024 - 37,403

our average home and away crowd vs them is 26,652

to be planning to get nearly double that seems... optimistic

Thanks for that and will do.

Who are the Saints hoping will kick 50 goals this year for them?

Sharman? Owens?

Rubbish team. Overhyped

The club would hope to have the next ruck on the list and we should use this year to see if it is Heath. He can also learn to play forward which will be more and more important with these new ruck rules.

But Max and the club can continue to want AA jackets if they want, I just don’t care in a year when we will win 8 games.

Water is actually not wet.

It makes other things wet

My brain hurts. I'm gunna be thinking about that for the rest of the day.

Also, I'm getting nervous.

I see a problem with this!

I don't see the ruck as a problem as we have height all over the ground to combat marking. You always lose at least 40% ruck advantage even when Max is at his best. Clearances don't always go with winning the tap. This combined with less boundary throw ins and a more free flowing game means if you lose 4 or 5 hit outs it doesn't matter, especially if you have a smaller ruck able to contest the clearance.

Two chemists walk into a bar.

The first says "I'll have some H20".

The second says "I'll have some H2O too"

The second chemist suddenly is deceased.

Why?

Agree, the number of throw ins are likely cut in half! Make it easier for the key ruckman! Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the season!

optimistic for a good showing tomorrow but have little feel for what will really happen. Would love to see a bounce like the Pies got when Buckley was replaced!

Entry into the forward half has looked much better in the two practice games but North & Tigers were both ordinary!

Anyway go Demons!

Cannot believe the Chandler slander here.

His kicking is top notch, both field and set shot. Does so much hard running, tackling and 1 per centers.

I think he will thrive in Kingy's more free flowing style, think he is primed for a big year

First round is always an exception to the rule. Crowds are anywhere from 20%-100% inflated vs what would the same game might get later in the season if either team is out of finals contention.

50k doable but I would guess that 39k-43k is stronger.

I remain very skeptical

Um... comets, Saturn's rings, Oort cloud, misc. nebulae, etc.?

Not sure what to expect for crowd number tomorrow but interesting to see that level 4 Shane Warne stand is open for GA. Never usually open for dees home games

Because the second drank hydrogen peroxide or H2O2?

I’m expecting a 20plus point comfortable win. The Saints are ordinary and I’ve got a sneaking suspicion we’re up and about.

And I’m sure they will but it’s rd 1, plenty of time. I think King will give Max games off this year
