Oh christ the timing. Kentfield felled with a blow to the head in a marking contest just a minute or so before lightning stops play.

Isn’t this the third time we’ve been involved in such stoppages… lightning in the west(?) and lights out in Brisbane…now this. If I were religious, I’d think god’s not a fan.

Really sloppy by the Tigers defender and totally avoidable if he took more care with his spoiling action

And I know nuffies will say “it’s only an accident, it’s part of the game blah blah blah” but we’re clearly at a point where players should be held accountable for their actions (even if they are football actions)

If you can’t make a play without endangering another player, don’t do it

How did you see it @dice ?

Not sure what is [censored] me the most…

The lightning

The [censored] wit hitting Batman with an elbow to the back of the head

Or somebody playing greatest hits of 1864 in the change room –“Hooked On a Feeling”. I mean it’s okay at your Nanna‘s place for her birthday, but not when you’re trying to rev the boys up. Now it’s. “Come on Eileen”. FFS.

As someone who has had a few concussions, immediately after a knock your legs turn to complete jelly and you feel like you can't prop yourself up at all.

Hopefully it was just that and not a knee injury.

One of the worst things to do with glandular fever is to rush back too soon.

Not unusual to rush back then get a set back

Absolutely!

I had Glandular Fever (later in life) and love keeping fit but now every time I push myself too hard I get a relapse

Mate its a contact sport ffs.

Lets just suspend every single player that cops a knock shall we?

Don't do it again.

Don’t worry, @Ghostwriter got in before you 😉

This is one thing I really dislike… there was absolutely no malice in what was essentially a footballing accident. Why is it that every time one of our players is injured, it must have been done with intent?

May not have been an intent on the part of the richmond player, but it was pretty fckn agricultural.

in the era of 'duty of care,' players should be more careful than that.

I reckon the pass from fritta to Luker didnt help could have been lower and harder, it did seem to set Luker up for the clash

Very ..'sloppy'.. some players... you know... just take opportunities. They're around.

Luker subbed off for T Mc effectively. Wonder if he plays forward.

X Taylor and Matthews the remaining subs in the warm up clothes. Hopefully see them in the second half.

Dunno about the 'lightning tracker' but the radar has more on the way.Screenshot_20260227_164157_AUS Rain Radar.jpg

With kettle out out for the rest of the game. I’m not taking much with how our forward line works as we only have one tall key forward for the rest of the game. Hope kentfeild is ok!!!!!

He's missed a little bit of pre season with concussion

Hmmm ok. Hopefully this hit is purely bad luck for him then

They pretty much do. It's nothing new. If you give someone concussion it will be looked at. Was it an accident? Definitely. Was it careless? Also definitely.

It will be looked at and I won't even try and guess what they will throw out for a punishment as I don't really think they even know.

I disagee. The game and rules have changed now and players have to take responsibility for their spoiling attempts.

We’ve seen Maynard banned for a round house spoil.

This wasn’t that bad but it was very agricultural and missed the ball by a fair way. He also chose the right arm where the left would’ve given him a chance of spoiling taking the head.

There also a role for our players in preventing our own injuries. Langford has to stay out or our body between his opponent and Luker. It’s something we’ve been really bad at for a long time.

Agree, suspending players for careless spoiling leading to concussion will encourage players to work on spoiling techniques.

We're back on and Maxy goals straight away after a pinpoint pass from Langdon.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
