The AGE - a farce

Featured Replies

Like most of us here, I’m voracious in pursuit of all things Dees in the media, so it was with great anticipation I purchased the Age this morning, a paper I’d generally avoid like the plague for personal reasons, to bask in the glow of a rapturous analysis of our sparkling efforts.

But

Crickets.. not a single word!

However there was room to feature a 1/2 page interview with some unknown Roos’ player who didn’t even play .

I understand time constraints restrict what’s published, however the game finished well before publication deadlines, so go figure.

The club’s efforts to raise the profile of the organization for membership growth was done no favours!

It was a practice match mate, wouldn’t let it ruin your weekend!

He is right, I watched the nine news and zero on our game, I switched to 7 and they gave the score and a comment about North players who were injured.

The Age is the only subscription i have to legacy media. IT's not too bad on local and state news (hence why i subscribe)

i don't pay any attention to the AFL journalists that write for the paper

Legacy media is dying in the [censored]. I wouldn't be too fussed what the age, or any other media outlet have to say, or not say about the Dees.

There was certainly an article , particularly extolling the brilliance of the Pickets in my copy of the Age this morning.

Perhaps not as extensive as the matches involving “important teams’, but there nonetheless

They have gone "sooky bubs"

And so it begins 2026...

The Age and its sister paper, the Sydney Morning Herald have been in steady decline for years. However, since being taken over by Nine News they’ve been doing even further downhill and soon it will go out of business altogether.

Yes, it's actually very sad what has happened to The Age, going back to the 1960's-1980's The Age was one of the Great Newspapers of the world. It was respected and revered, but once the Syne Family relinquished power, it has become a piece of trash...

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
