Heโ€™ll already have his favourites, itโ€™s human nature

They haven't played a game under his watch.

They have done nothing to warrant favouritism.

Lol, we are not playing four key defendersโ€ฆ Have a look at the front page of todayโ€™s Hearld Sun, May will not be a priority this year. Itโ€™s basically a rebuild weโ€™re doing, why would we field two 33 year olds AND Lever and Turner when opposition teams only have two or three key forwards? Smalls will tear us apart if we field that. Wouldnโ€™t even surprise me if they prioritise Adams over those May and Mcdonald, not based on form, but setting us up for the future which is what this year will be all about

Iโ€™m not talking about round 1, Iโ€™m predicting a group that are match ready for the first months of the season, taking injury into account if it were to happen.

Making assumptions here. I was at training on Monday and Petty is fine, did all the drills except for the contact ones naturally, looked really good and jovial, has over 6 weeks until round one

Iโ€™m pleased to hear that! He is a valued member of our key backs, however, I have May ahead of him (if back to full fitness). I think that choice is rather obvious!

I like Jake. Very interesting to talk to. . A very different cat ๐Ÿ‘

Yes, heโ€™s the Travis Head of footyโ€ฆ looks serious (and no doubt, is) on the surface, but is a bit of an oddball.

Did anyone lazily read the bit about Simon Goodwin and thought it read "Lever still doesn't agree with the Simon Goodwin decision" (sacking)

No, I thought it was pretty clear that it was about his being dropped to Caseyโ€ฆ

โ€œI still sit here to this day and I donโ€™t agree with it but thatโ€™s (Goodwinโ€™s) opinion and match committeeโ€™s decision and so for me itโ€™s kind of over now and hopefully it doesnโ€™t happen again.โ€

Yes thats how I read it Hardtack, a bit conceited I thought.

I take back my optimism about May for the year ahead.

Iโ€™m tipping a โ€œretirementโ€ in the early rounds. His body can no longer stand up to the rigours of AFL football will be the explanation.

On May, I wonder if there is a future for him in the old Hibbard role as a back pocket to open up a position for Jed Adams?

I donโ€™t know that heโ€™s quick enough or good enough one-on-one to take the Hibberd role.

Steven May will play on the best oppo forward for much of the season

How is it obvious? Did you watch May play last year? Terrible for most of the year. Couple that with serious off field issues, age (34), and the fact that the club told him to look for a new home last year, they wanted him gone, but you still think this amounts to an obvious place in the side over Petty?

Youโ€™re not thinking clearly! Youโ€™re over emotional on this. The club didnโ€™t ask him to look for a new home, they said that his place wasnโ€™t guaranteedโ€ฆ that he was free to explore his options. I go to all games at the G, so obviously I watched. Letโ€™s deal with factsโ€ฆ in 2026, May is still on our list. He is looking trim, focused and confident. He is an experienced, premiership full back. He was considered one of the best in the business throughout most of his career to date. I choose not to ignore those credentials. At the time of publication I obviously felt he was worthy to be considered for selection!

All of this could change rapidly if we take tonightโ€™s news flash into consideration, but I am not backing down on my support for a bloke who has been a very successful member of our defence for several years. In the end the coach and selection committee will make their choice based on the pathway back to success.

Police were called to his home from someone close to him due to threatening behaviour

No problems then, the only thing I saw up here in QLD was that it was related to the old incident. Sad to hear if it's a fresh incident.

Greg I feel that you are being overly harsh on Steven May, I watch every game and I thought May was one of our most reliable down back. I have checked his Wheely ratings and they back up my thoughts, ie

Games - 16

TOG - 93.9%

disposals - 17.7 efficiency- 86.2%

Marks - 7.1 / game Intercepts - 2.8

Spoils - 5.3 / game

He missed games due to injury and being incorrectly reported. His 1v1 is 1.9 or 66%, whatever comes out he well and truely warranted and earnt his spot in 2025.
