Finally a headband back in red & blue

Huge news!

oh how ive missed jayden hunt

I'm happy with this. He's a versatile player with freakish athleticism, speed and strength for his size. He'll bring some excitement.

An indication of the sort of attacking brand of football that King is going to be looking for perhaps?

Feels like Paul Roos era list management where we brought in cheapish players who were still AFL standard to fill an immediate need during our rebuild. Good get.

Would be a solid inexpensive get. Yes please.

we have collectively learnt nothing in the last 3 years, it really is exciting being a dees fan, how did we ever win one? Us and essendon just doing everyone else favours come trade time...

Personally, I think we are in need of some stock standard bonafide AFL players - Jiath is that.

As ever, the price matters but I think he is a good talent and has confidence in his ability at this level.

stock standard and bonafide, can one be both???

it is scary that in my rolling power rankings he slides in at 23rd because he shouldnt be anywhere above 30 for anyone anymore

I agree his disposal is questionable but we are not playing him off HB. I think he is a stronger and faster version of Judd with probably less effectiveness in disposal and game awareness.

Some kids have silk to get out of tight spots and others have strength and speed.

Kicking efficiency much better than Trac and Claz

You can’t compare a half back flanker with onballers for disposal efficiency..

Here’s an idea… how about we warmly welcome CJ to our club?!

Some ppl are [censored] unbelievable

Agree. I have my reservations, as I think we need a greater focus on disposal skills/decision, I will (as I always do) place my faith the club in identifying this and improving it as much as possible.

I'll save my warm welcome for the official announcement. Notwithstanding my reservations, I think he will add a lot of flair, fun and connection to the younger fan base in particular. Seems like a really nice, relatable young lad who will make a few fans pretty quickly.

This reminds me of the Héritier Lumumba move.

Fills a need.

Jiath and AMW as our small forward stoppers.

A late 2nd rounder/early 3rd rounder should do it

Agree 4th rounder, they can have a 5th.

Our midfield is going to get belted next year, we need more rebound from defence than Bowey and Salem. CJ sounds good.

Yay, another fringe player.

Dear God, I hope not. Lumumba was the worst recruit I've ever seen walk through the front door of this place (and I've seen plenty of shockers).

Jiath isn't a world-beater but goes alright. We have lost a lot of players this off-season you can't just replace them all with kids from the draft.

This isn't the same as picking up VFL players when we are in our flag window this is getting an AFL ready player to play a role during our rebuild.

Only 26 years of age.

In today's game, he could easily smash out a good 7-8 year career for the Dees.

For comparison, we picked up Hibberd at the exact same age and he ended with a 7 year career/100 games at the Dees with a sloppy rig 🐷

I’d be happy if we got 2015 Lumumba productivity from CJ.

(2016 not so much…)

In a Dees mates Whats App group I'm in people are sharing what their Hawthorn mates are saying.

  • Big Tease. Looks Elite. Shocking Decision Maker and Really bad under pressure.

  • Great at getting the ball, no idea what to do with it once he has it.

  • Always injured.

Don't shoot the messenger just passing on observations from opposition supporters.

Who needs Humphrey when you can have CJ.

Hawks mate says running machine, but can’t kick, nothing upstairs (his words).

Anyway he’s ours and wears our colours. Run like the wind CJ……..

So he's another Hunt. Fine by me.

I hope he goes well and body holds up. Smells like McAdam deal.

He’s a jet when fit.

Fingers crossed.

What was the deal in the end anyone know? 3 years and a pick swap?

Happy with this, gives us something different down back, I’m sure will get plenty of games next year and hopefully brings his game to the next level. Watched a fair bit of him a couple of years ago and thought he was going to be a star. Fingers crossed he will be for the Dee’s

Seems to get the ball OK, but a turnover merchant ... kicking + decision making not good.

Hopefully he can improve with a change of club.

Don’t mind him at all if he can stay fit and as others have pointed out we can’t go all kids for next season. Should be exciting watching him, Koz and Caleb burn up the MCG grass at least!
