So GWS have tabled their future 3rd rounder, with us paying 'a sizeable' portion of hos contract. Slightly insulting but what can you expect having forced him out i suppose.

A F3 for clarry and is paying zero contract i could swallow. Giving him away for peanuts and paying a big chunk is crazy and Lamb needs to be held accountable

A future third and we are still paying a "sizeable" portion of clarry's salary, that is nothing but an insult.

If we have to pay half his salary still, we have to be pursuing their first rounder.

A future third should only maybe be accepted on the proviso that GWS take the whole contract.

I don tthink Tim Lamb is cut out for the brutality of trade negotiations. He is Mr Nice Guy and appears to be taken advantage of year after year.

GWS is basically waiting for us to blink. The whole nonsense around not having cap space basically is designed to make us sweat. If the reports on DeGoey to GWS are true, id pick up the phone to Collingwood and say well take DeGoey pick (15) and give you Oliver and take a 40-50% of his salary. Id say Oliver is probably in better physical condition and is younger than JDG so theyd effectively get a more fit player at about 60% of the price.

If Oliver doesn't want to go there, he better be in tip top shape for pre-season. If not, then id reach out to the AFL and start the convo around terminating/suspending contract as the Doggies did with JUH. There has to be a clause in contract around players professionalism and ability to play.

We’re the softest team in the league and Lamb is clearly seen as a mug by other teams so we’ll take this deal

But no way we should. I would’ve happily let him go and and try find his feet but both he and the giants have taken the [censored] and we’d have our pants pulled down allowing this to happen whilE he slags us off and they give us ultimatums

Find a [censored] backbone for once

I still don't understand why we didn't go down the breach of contract path. Unless those contracts are so heavily in the players favour that almost anything goes

The time to sack Clarry was 2023, but the hope then was surely to fix him and get years of good footy out of him. Plus I'm sure his side/the AFLPA would've asked for a period of mental health leave rather than a violation of his contract.

Not sure he's done anything significantly wrong all through the 24 season until now to breach his contract.

I'd rather the league just step in a create a max contract value and years similar to the NBA, but otherwise clubs might have to work together to formular some standard conditions and incentives in long term deals to protect clubs. Of course every club is so desperate for talent that they probably wouldn't agree to a standard conditions that project clubs and just roll the dice on guys.

So this only offer, comes effectively on the last day of trading.

Giants wait until the last minute to make a low ball offer.

This is the club we gave Bedford to.

That is not negotiating in good faith.

Giants doing exactly what I’d do. They know we’ve got no negotiating power.

We’ve stuffed this up. Surely we had to know how Oliver would react to getting pushed out. He’s recently committed to the club publicly and is known not to filter his words. The moment we made up the rubbish about playing at Casey (if true), we slashed his trade value and then it was completely dissolved once Oliver said he likes Collingwood more than us.

I really don’t know how bad Oliver would have to be off field to make us try to push him out. From reports on here he’s well liked by the playing group (at least most), is a hard trainer and has time for supporters. Anything outside that which justifies jetting off someone of his calibre surely approaches breach of contract type stuff.

Maybe time to tell him to revisit the pies

With Claz seemingly committed to GWS, if we don't accept their derisory offer what chance he's still in red & blue come 7:30pm tomorrow? There's no mention any other interest.

Exactly.

No-one wants to touch him.

And the same club that refused to let Derksen go last year and then never played him this year.

Tell them to GAGF

Just totally inept management by King, Lamb and co Just letting one of our finest go for a song! Disgraceful! Worse than Basket Case stuff!

GWS know we won't take Oliver back and he won't go anywhere else.

We take what we are given.

Ridiculous.

But predictable.

Meanwhile, out in the real world, through no fault of Lamb's Oliver has made himself pretty much unemployable. No-one wants to touch him, including us. Frankly, that the Giants would even be prepared to pay half of his salary is something. Not only do we get him off our hands, we save ourselves 700K per year. Win win.

I'm not sure what workplaces you've experienced, but there can be any number of reasons why someone could be fulfilling their contract in terms of capability but be an overall negative in terms of other employees, which then impacts productivity.

Half his salary must equal no deal. At up to $350k I was happy with zero coming back.

Somebody if not everybody in the trading/recruiting/contracting area deserves the sack IMO.

I've lost count of the stuff ups.

But it is completely bad faith negotiating to make your first offer and a low ball offer at that, the day before trading closes.

Tell them if you can’t afford his salary, we will look at a player swap, to assist your salary cap and save your pick.

This is real dirty dealing by them.

Tell them the wheel will turn if that is how they operate.

I can’t wait for the 9,000,000 posts next year by everyone here who were pushing for Clarry to be sold off for a pack of condoms for the last two years, having a full blown meltdown that he’s playing well and we are paying him to do it

Careful what you wish for

Tim Lamb is a laughing stock if this is acceptable to him. His credibility with MFC supporters and fellow list managers is in the toilet. GWS treating him like dirt. This is a pivotal moment for Guerra, King and Smith.

Generally agree.

We have no leg to stand on, and they know it.

Unlike with Trac, where we’ve at least put up a public position of wanting him back, the way we’ve dropped this news on Clarry, so late and so abruptly, has destroyed any bargaining power we have.

Coupled with a contract that no one wants (us included), we’re absolutely stuffed. We have no choice but to take their lowball offer and move on.

Is there any version of a GWS deal for Clarry that we wouldn’t accept, and therefore have him playing for us next year?

Maybe we keep Clarry, hope he’s seen the light and works his butt off to redeem himself at the Dees in 2016 and beyond?

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
