Furious 😡

Then direct your fury at Oliver. He brought this on himself and unfortunately, the club.

While the situation behind it isn't the same, it's not really different to the JUH trade - pick 79 for a player who was taken at pick 1. Or look at the Hogan trades in/out of Fremantle. They paid a king's ransom and sold him for pick 54 two years later.

etc. etc.

Good luck to Clayton, but clearly the situation had become untenable. We'll probably never know the real reasons.

King said enough

I suspect that this goes a lot further than King, and follows on from the Goodwin sacking. Richardson and others would know exactly what has been happening, and are trying to give King a clean slate. OK, we pay the price, but so be it.

Reminds me somewhat of the Jack Watts trade with Goodwin coming in. Pick 31.

What surprises me about this thread is for some years many on this list have been berating the MFC management for their incompetence and for making a sequence of poor decisions that have cost the team plenty. Bosses, coaches, assistance coaches, etc have all been vilified here.

Now, suddenly in relation to Clayton Oliver, the same MFC bosses are the all wise making rational decisions that are best for the club.

Since when?

My surmise is that this is another bad decision - one of a long sequence.

The bad decision was not getting rid of him 2 years ago

Despite what some on here will tell you, it’s perfectly ok to feel incredibly sad about this trade.

Thank you Clarry for giving us some of the best years of our supporting lives.

You were by far the most special midfielder I’ve ever seen in red and blue.

I wish you nothing but success. On field, but much more importantly off field.

I hope you find the peace you’re so desperately looking for.

Forever the greatest #13 ❤️💙

Nuh, bugger him. We gave him a great opportunity, supported him through tough times, and signed him to a lucrative long-term deal. In return, he repaid us with continued unprofessional and immature off-field behaviour, showing complete disregard for the club and those who backed him. I hope he sorts himself out off field but wish him no on-field success.

Probably the saddest and most deflated I've felt in years.

It was probably time to say goodbye, but he was the best player the club has seen in four decades.

Four time B&F winner, including in our premiership year. Honestly going to be gutted to see him in GWS colours next year. I hope the move out of Melbourne is good for his personal life, and he can find his peak form again.

Always a premiership Demon, and always a legend of the club.

Seriously,he is gone, was toxicfor nearly two years,King said enough. I will always appreciate up to 21 but the club has done the right thing... time to move on

Absolutely

He’s a man child that needs to grow up

Hanging out with Ugle Hagen now

Needs a serious lifestyle change

I’m actually relieved that this saga between Clarry & Trac is over

Fresh start

Hate to rain on Oliver's parade, but I am genuinely amazed that people keep saying that he's our best player since Flower when we literally have Max Gawn.

This is a complete dumpster fire 🔥 of an outcome...

Heads must roll

If you understand the cause...then you'll get they already have.

People value different things in football players.

As a lifelong midfielder throughout my amateur career, he was impeccable to watch.

Richardson will be happy that he no longer has to mow Clayton's lawn........

Literally..

I won't be changing my username. I loved him as a player. He very obviously had some demons, so to speak, but I believe we should have made a better fist of helping him. He was obviously born with incredible natural ability, but equally, he obviously was born with mental weaknesses. I am not going to criticise him for not being able to deal with what the world threw at him as a star: adulation, money, total lack of privacy, constant scrutiny and, as this site so clearly demonstrates, a public prepared to jump down his throat at the slightest mistake. These are things that an unsophisticated country boy can't be expected to deal with unless they are born with mental equipment that Clarrie clearly doesn't have.

I hate Geelong but I wish we had kept Clarrie out of scrutiny and judgment the way that they did with Stengle.

I wish we had kept him and supported him and got him through his troubles. Everyone I have spoken to who has met him has said that he is a really nice person. I will HATE watching him destroy us for GWS, but I wish him all the best for his footy life and the difficult times after that.

Oliver's gone to GWS.

Ugle-Hagan has gone to the Gold Coast, to play with Petracca.

Kane Cornes will be laughing about this deal for years. We are a joke.

He’s spot on, it’s the worst contract in AFL history and that sits squarely with the club and Oliver! Let’s hope it’s a wake up call for the club. No high performance organisation gives these contracts out. It’s sad that Oliver didn’t hold up his end of the deal and now the club (especially the old regime) holds all consequences and not Oliver.

Peanuts. We gave him away for nuthin bloody peanuts ,

He must have done something significantly wrong More than bending wipers and [censored] on car door handles ,

Who hasn’t done that !

Tell me it wasn’t as bad as [censored] Carey at norf. Sad. Very sad day
