Farewell Clayton Oliver

I like to think player agents feed their media rats much inflated contract numbers to

Promote their business. They are basically real estate agents.

I would have thought that horse has bolted, any thoughts of fair compo went out the door when we let it be known we would pay up to half his wage. Clubs know when a fire sale is on.

We didn't let it be known, Sam Edmund did, although I suppose we did let it happen by horrible coms and not beating Edmund with our own press release.

But who told Sam? Only Clarry, his manager, King, Lamb and Richardson were at the meeting!

I bet it didn't come form the club. And I bet some mayo was applied because media reports are UP TO $700K.

Who doesn't care if they trash the club or if the club gets fair value.

No, I'm sure it came from Clarry's management, but we should have had a press release ready to go. Meeting is over, publish, please. It took us 2.5 hours to publish anything, so a vacuum that allowed rumours to undermine our potential to get anything back.

As I said before, Richmond overcame bad culture issues and took out 2 premierships on the way. It is what happens on the playing field. Do you think Clarry was not embraced by his teammates? It struck me he was popular. Did he not put in full efforts when playing for the Demons?

Dr Gonzo seems to think what I said was amusing as he does often. I challenge him to disprove my points about Richmond, Clarry embraced by his team mates and playing with maximum effort in all his games. Up to you Doc!

We are not losing the star Oliver

We are losing Oliver who finished behind Chandler in the BnF. No offence to Kade, I love him.

The star Clarry is in the past. I have 100% confidence he won’t get near that form again.

I wish him well but i’m pumped we can have clear air with him gone

He went pretty close to his best in the last game against Collingwood. .

Why are you so sure he can't be the champion again? Do you know something about his personal life? Cheers.

Do i get three guesses ?

1) some not good at keeping the quiet bits...quiet

2) another player

3) someone who mucks with rakes

🤔🤔🤔🤔

I'm going with 1 & 3

Hmmm 1&3

A bit too cryptic for me, bub!

I would say none of the 3 ... 🤔

Would be evil genius if it was.

It seems overly complicated and therefore unlikely. And it seems that Clayton has been genuinely hurt, judging by some of his comments.

But at first I did wonder if some of it was driven to expose who was leaking.

But I think that kind of plot is way to sophisticated for this scenario, and I don't think it would be fair for us to use Clayton as a means to find that leak internally, given his own issues.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagen's interview at the airport today was a good example of how to do a "door stop" interview professionally. Showed class and respect for the club that gave him a go and tried to help him in the tough times.

Looks like saints are pulling out from Leek Aleer, could we use him as a part of this trade?

i think getting Leek aleer is not the worst option as part of the clarry trade

Does Aleer get his own thread?

Should St Kilda be getting absolutely pilloried for making an offer to a player and then withdrawing it after the player has told their current club, requested the trade, and it has all gone public?

Or is that just a 'Meh, St Kilda being St Kilda' thing?

So many people have glossed over this - so quick to kick Oliver out the door now that they want to overlook that the club didn't ask him to leave at all. And he hasn't indicated at all (yet) that he wants to leave. Why are people jumping at every crumb of rumour thrown out by the media instead of listening to our own List Manager?

Over the past 2 years he has shown he is past his best

in 22/23 he had 56 brownlow votes compared to 5 in 24/25

Way down on clearances and general impact. Clangers and poor kicking up

2 years is enough time to realise he won't get back to the Champion he was.

One thing we have enough of is key backs. It's why we are happy for may to go amongst other reasons

Tim Lamb saying "Reporting on Oliver meeting last week not necessarily correct, but we did not direct him to explore options" is interesting, isn't it?

Going by reports he's a pretty emotional guy, and let's be honest, not always making the most mature of decisions (everyone matures at different rates, not a dig), is it entirely possible that the alternative reports are true, in that we have suggested he will need to play a different role next year, and he has not reacted well, and has stormed out, and we have said this is what 2026 looks like, you are welcome to find a new home if this does not suit you?

He's taken some calls and met some people, no different to the last 2 years really.

Could he still play in the red and blue once the dust settles a bit?

Personally, I would rather keep Clarry, a club legend, and someone I think is primed for a really good 2026, especially after a solid preseason (and I would have said no more drama, but that horse has bolted), than pay a chunk of his salary - lose him AND Clarry, and experience etc, and have him play/tear it up for the Giants, and have nobody really to replace him.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
