"I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes" - Chris Scott

Cameron looked to be concussed, wasn’t assessed

then broke his arm and forced to play on

way to look after your best player Scotty!

Sorry I don't buy that a player with a broken arm can contribute more than a player who has all his body working.

Versies his Captain who said in plain English on the day they were too good. What is it with Scott does he have a gracious bone in his body? I know the answer!

Above some how I lost the last half. If he could not do more than a guy with one arm then what was he doing in the team. You are playing a guy who cannot Mark and that is one of his usual strong points. I can see nothing that supports a guy with a broken arm continuing to play in any game.

😂😂😂😂😂

He is a rare creature, I don't know anyone who doesn't have just a small amount of grace. He has zero.

Scott paid tribute to lions & Ashcrofts etc but why throw in stuff about I want go into detail but things that may have impacted his team during his pressure a refused to discuss! agree with sub rule but he needs to stop with these statements as he’s making excuses, focus on the Bailey smith actions he’s a distraction

Poor Geelong. It must be so hard being the only AFL club that has to deal with issues.

I’m so glad we are lucky enough to support a problem free club like Melbourne 😂

Are Geelong going to get investigated into letting Jeremy cameron play with a broken arm?

I mean danger said he heard a snap, you could tell it was broken. I'm not sure why Chris Scott was going on about the sub rule.

At 3/4 time why couldn't they just sub him off instead of Rhys Stanley?the guys arm was broken.

I know its not the same level, but this is very comparable with Trac and his spleen injury that if left untreated for days/weeks could have ultimately cost him his life. But hear me out. Broken arms are most of the time straight forward fractures that heal good enough to restore function. But occasional and rarely, there can be complications. Severe complications that could ultimately cost Cameron his arm.

Were the medico's convinced it was just a fracture? Similar to how medico's thought Tracs was just some cracked ribs and at worst a collapsed lung?

It was incredibly irresponsible for Geelong to let Cameron back on the field.

Will they cop any heat from the media? No... in fact quite the opposite, it will be applauded for its courage and bravery.

STUPID!

He certainly looked dazed but it could have been from the pain of his injury.

Either way, the care of the player should be questioned.

It's hard not to wonder as to the the media's response if Clarry abused a female photographer or if Melbourne left a player on in a GF appeared concussed but, nonetheless, had a broken arm. That's just for starters, add a current Cats player going through the courts atm, rocking up to the ground.

Cats get the easiest ride in the media and it is very odd.

It's probably no longer odd BoBo, although I don't Garry Lyon's unwavering support and seeming cheer leading. He's a champion of our club....but he's also becoming a bit of a hard listen as a commentator.

All the close losses we've had recently suggest maybe we do think were losers.

Well, makes me think we're losers.
And the clubs capitulation since the GF certainly doesn't help things at all.
We flashed in the pan during a year we played in empty stadiums and then won the flag in freakin' Perth.
I couldn't even watch the game with my old man and we long suffering supporters couldn't attend the festivities at the G straight after the game.
Would have been forken Epic.
How's them sour grapes 🤨

But back to Cameron.
Clearly a clash of heads, should have been assessed but rules go out the window on GF day.
Especially when the player concerned is an AFL/Geelong/media darling.
And Stanley should be insulted that the coach thinks a one armed Cameron would be more productive than himself.
Should look for another club.

Also noted we didn't have to listen to Chris Scott whining about playing home finals this year.
Reckon the President told him to pull his head in as he come out and said they we're happy to play their games at the MCG.

It really is much more important whether the players think they're losers. If a team comes from 16th the previous year to 4th and then after a stumble in Week 1 end up starting at 6.0 in the GF their self-belief or lack thereof will decide if they're a genuine chance ( not everyone else).

As for empty stadiums I don't think they're as big a deal as some would think. Just because Kardinia Park was empty doesn't mean our comeback win in the final round was a fluke. I'm sure some teams do get overwhelmed by big crowds. But we won our GF in a full and loud stadium (and then won with much bigger crowds in the two years after.) I can't agree with you

The majority of the season was played with crowds...including finals. I think we had three games without crowds.

The crowds were often compromised, including the fact interstate grounds substituting for the MCG meant even capacity crowds couldn't be anything like 90+K they might have been. I just can't think a team in the top 4 for 3 years and who rarely played well below their best in front of large crowds at the time suggest anything fluky.

It was Scott who looked concussed. Always has an excuse. Gigantic ego.

This bloke says the same thing when he loses..congratulations to opposition…….there were things behind this loss but I don’t want to go into it ………. But then starts leaking his sorrowful story every time

It’s the same [censored] he rolled out when he lost to us in the finals 2021

Certainly is a bit of a pattern isn’t there.

I pretty much turned the telly not long after the game had finished….but I did get to hear Dangefield get up on the stage and speak.

In my opinion I thought he did really well. Congratulated Brisbane but also made the point that coming second doesn’t mean that it should be all doom and gloom.

There is only one in eighteen chance of winning a premiership. I reckon if your team finishes in the top four it ain’t all bad. A premiership would of course be better but not winning it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Certainly beats finishing bottom four.

I now must look up the press conference and feel Scott’s pain. 😉

Yeah, I don't like the way rotations have affected the game. What do we actually want to see in Aussie rules? What do we proudly boast about if we're explaining our sport to foreigners? It's the marking, kicking (especially the goals from way out or impossible angles), maybe the dodging and same other skills like tackles and smothers and even the footy IQ stuff like the non-ruck tap-ons, toe pokes and hand pases which put a teammate in a much better position. IMO it's not running. While important I just don't care about players running longer or faster - certainly not in comparison with actual football skills. I'd happily have rotations quotas cut way back. Maybe we'd even see less injuries, concussions, congestion and rolling mauls.

You think back to some of those classic games and finals where players are just out on their feet.

That's when it's fascinating, those last 15 minutes when players are stuffed and pure willpower kicks in.

The AFL has a choice on moving towards US style superbowl [censored] or having a desperate contest.

I think they'll go in the idiotic kneejerk direction again

Caroline Wilson’s soft piece on him contradicts most of this

He sounds like a bit of a nong

There must be a royal commission into Cameron playing on. Like there was with Petracca.

Scott and McRae are the two biggest wankers in the coaching ranks. Every time they lose it's always something.

And they are the first to know the maggot of the week rule of the week before anyone else.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
