Brisbane had plenty go wrong this year. Injuries, a ridiculously hard fixture, then losing the first final and Neale doing a calf.

To win despite all that is an elite achievement.

Geelong, meanwhile, have everything you could ask for and still [censored] the bed in the Grand Final. I absolutely love it.

I don't know about this narrative, it makes it sound like Brisbane are battlers against the odds. They've had extraordinary good luck with father/sons coupled with an Academy that really does give them something of a leg up.

It's hard to go back to back, and it's impressive they've done it (even though, as I've been clear in other posts about, I absolutely hate them). But let's not start getting rosy about it, they're no underdog.

Would the cats be one of the Cubs to make the most finals and lose the most in last 15 years?

Don’t get me wrong, their sustained top 4 finishes and prelims leave most of the rest of the competition for dead.

I wouldn’t be mocking them for losing finals; we can’t lose finals if we don’t even make them.

But this year in particular, AFAIK they’ve had a good run with injuries, a good fixture, and everything there for them to win today. And when it was all said and done, didn’t get close.

I’m just talking about this season, particularly in comparison to Geelong.

Agree with the premise - the good fortune of their father son additions coming in right as their list was peaking has taken them to this level. Huge amount of luck. Likely 0 flags without the Ashcrofts.

It doesn’t help equalisation that they’ll now add Draper and Allen.

Thanks Tu but no point making top four continuously and not winning the silverware. That's my two cents at least.

Probably already mentioned, but are we the only team to not to lose Brisbane this year?

I hope we can do back to back one day.

What an awesome feeling.

Lions have done the trifecta before.

Imagine how pumped all those lads are.

Last game for Danger or does he go again?

Last week amazing but all year, just ok

Honestly feels like my team won the flag, such is my disdain for Geelong, and admiration for this Brisbane side.

How good is OMac, a moment all about him, and he still treated the Auskick kid better than anyone. Love that guy.

North didn’t lose to them. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, fair enough. I'm choosing to see the silver lining in that if they manage to go round a third time through further academy/free agent additions then I'll at least I won't be on my own in disliking them so much.

See you Monday Kingy

Did anyone fling him a Dees jumper after the siren ?

Too soon ??

What a pathetic choke from the Cats

36-36 at HT

13 goals to 3 in the 2nd half. excluding 3 junk time goals

Lions didn’t even kick straight

Ashcroft reminds me of the prince from Shrek.

Yeah, Prince Charming not Lord Farquhar.

Lord Farquhar is obviously Zorko.

“Equalisation”

This is what the lions paid for Will Ashcroft. A side that had just played finals for 5 years.

“The Lions traded out pick 36 and a future-third round pick to Hawthorn for picks 41, 50, 52 and 63.

Brisbane also gave North Melbourne pick 63 and their 2023 third-round selection in exchange for pick 40.”

Rhys Stanley built like Tarzan and... well u know the rest, Blicavs, Close, Danger, useless, who was no 33??played like a 16 year old Poor effort Jeelong

Lachie Neale coming on changed the game. What a sub.

Lions definitely know what their purpose is!

Agree. Goodwin saying we lost purpose after winning the 2021 GF was bizarre and difficult to understand. The inner built want to win has to be continuous, not just a blip in time.

Rather make it to the GF every 6 years but wining every time. Nothing beats the feeling of being the champions, no amount of minor premiers, top 4 or PF.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
