Development is one thing but have a look at the teams that continually compete - Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn - they generally have over half of their players originating at other clubs. They trade for need. Its a gaping hole in melbourne's list management.

We are terrible at getting experienced players to our club. I feel if we are to compete each year at the top level its this area we need to fix. There are some past successes with Langdon, Melksham, Hibberd, May and Lever but more recent times the cupboard has been largely bare.

Agree with the point you’re making about us needing to trade in better players but over half?! 6 of Geelong’s prelim final 23 started at another club.

Our 2021 GF side had 5.

Gotta love a bit of revisionism. Liberals were probably about to be voted out yet for no reason they guaranteed payment for a road Labor were saying they were going to cancel. Was this Liberal incompetence or corruption? Funny how no one will entertain them, for what? 11 years now?

(And, no, I don't particularly want politics on a football page)

As i was saying, it’s since ’21

King will celebrate with the Geelong players on Saturday and then start officially with us on Monday

Have rules changed about taking about politics? I hope not.

It never ends well does it, in other news how much do you reckon the Essendon fans are thinking they have the wrong brother and that is why the soft cap for senior coaches salary hasn't been exempted.

for the perfect accompaniment just slip a Leonard Cohen platter on the ol' turntable !!

Somebody mentioned Luke Breust as a potential forwards coach, but he and Taylor Duryea have both joined Richmond as development coaches.

Often there's an explanation for each trade. There may be way more bad luck than we realise (and we can forget just how little we gave up on some trades AND that looking back in the archives often there was almost complete agreement with these moved). There are probably better recruiters with some clubs. But ours are not the equivalent of a full forward who can't mark, can't lead, can't handball and even fluffs shots from just outside the goal square.

I hope Steven King has already asked Selwyn to get a high performance program going like this.

Need a multi million dollar tax payer funded training facility for a program like that.

Incidentally, didn't Kingy almost have a heart attack after peddling too hard on the watt bike in the altitude training room down at Kardinia Park?

Agree you need luck with any trade

We have had some good ones as well.

Indeed. Maybe King will bring a recently successful recruiter with him. Maybe the current ones can improve. The underwhelming trades above are a big reason why we're now a weaker team but, yeah, most may be honest, understandable mistakes.

Ooze quietly building his Footy I.Q. 👍

Now Kingy is officially Melbourne.

Looking forward to the next 2-3 weeks.

Clearly SK was far too pre-occupied with the thought of coaching us next year, and the entire Cats outfit collapsed on GF day as a result 😝
