I just listened to the Real Footy Podcast.

Unfortunately Sam McClure was on in place of Micheal Gleason so it was a Caro/McClure horrorshow.

McClure : "have they given the job to the second choice?"

Wilson : "yep."

Caro goes on to say that NB seriously considered not going through the process but felt compelled to do so, he was told by friends to be wary of melbounre and seriously wasn't prepared to give up tas. She said that the Demons got the best person who wanted the job.

She thought the selection committee was unusual. Jobe Watson being under qualified due to not being involved in a similar process before and not having an inside knowledge of the demons. Frank Ponissi was also apparently an odd choice despite being highly respected.

McClure implied that Skipworth pulled out because he thought the panels mind was made up early but said he didn't know for sure.

When McClure brings up the next topic about the AFL chair commission position Caro says "speaking about messes."

Jack Niall as always was great and tried to insert some common sense to the conversation.

If you only ever use people who have done it before you’d eventually run out of options when they’re all senile!! One thing in Watson’s favour he had 5 different coaches, most of them with big weaknesses.

We also had Green, Smith, Richo on the committee. So it had a lot of different football voices.

I’m sure Ponissi would’ve been a great help, if you’re criticising that you’re just making up arguments.

This 100%. There'd be nobody more qualified in the country than Ponissi to pass judgement on effective leadership in sport. Watson is a very astute operator. Always balanced and with vast experience dating back to Sheedy. Nothing wrong at all with the panel. And the process reached a pretty logical decision given Buckley's stance re Tasmania. It's a good appointment.

It's amazing to me that the media can do these mental gymnastics acknowledging King as a good appointment whilst still finding avenues to criticise us, like the panel being wrong or the process being shoddy.

Demon great John Beckwith made an art form of kicking it deliberately out of bounds from defence. He was renowned for it.

It was in the days before the "Out of bounds on the full rule" existed. That rule wasn't introduced by the VFL until 1969.
