I'm a huge fan of the way he speaks. So calm, assured, authoritative, supportive - he comes across as positive and fair, knowledgeable and friendly.

He strikes me as an incredible leader.

With that said I'm so happy he batted away the suggestion we went with King as we weren't prepared to wait for FIGJAM to make a decision - he's turned the narrative into one where King is our man as he won the role outright.

A nice little FU to Bucks as well, as it wasn't a boat race - and you were beaten by King. So take that.

I have a great feeling about this new age we're entering. New coach, new CEO, new president and hopefully a soon to be announced new home.

Go Dees!

So impressed so far... onwards abmnd upwards dees

So, I shouldn’t have got a Demons Premiership 2026 tatt just yet?

GW, I wouldn’t worry. If the guys don’t win, the gals most likely will!

I would recommend a Queen, a castle and a couple of bishops.

I called in and ripped McClure on AW this evening on my way home from work. Told him he would have slagged us if we’d hired Buckley and said it was a boat race. Said he now describes this a “shoddy” process, based on nothing other than his opinion. They then cut me off and gave no right to reply to his moronic response.

Pleasingly, Lloyd and Bartel took it to him as well, following my call. He came out looking like a goose and then conceded it was just his opinion

Would Love to hear it. Is there a link?

Chapeau!

Happy with the appointment. Glad we have gone with a hungry experienced assistant. Reports are he is a great people person which is good. Hope he is also tactically innovative and has a touch of ruthlessness, can make us more unpredictable and hold all players accountable.

The downside might be yet another period of transition to a new game plan. Hopefully the players buy in straight away and get hold of it quickly. Don’t want another 0-5 start.

Looking forward to watching our post match press conferences again too after a 12 month hiatus and I am expecting them to be “learnings” free zones. Hoping he tells it as it is and uses some expression and emotion.

We’ll see.

Go Dees!

Do we even have multiple assistants left to not tip out?

I have to say I’ve been very impressed with Guerra’s media appearances

And yes I know there will be many other metrics by which we’ll judge his performance, but it can’t be understated how important it is to have a CEO who articulate the club’s vision and decision making processes with confidence and clarity

A big step up from he who shall not be named…

As equally impressive as Guerra was how dismal a performance by Caroline Wilson who basically spent more time discussing Nathan Buckley instead of focusing on the successful candidate. Guerra has the courtesy to allow them to interview him and has to put up with mediocre questions and self-serving rubbish by a former journalist who really should retire now if this is the best that she can muster.

Sure but we have to replace a number of vacant positions

Only Williams and Radford for the moment. Maybe Chaplin if he takes the Richmond (or other) offer.

So only the two most important roles in mids coach and development coach

Selwyn is also out of contract

Guerra sounded great & answered the questions from Caro and didn’t fall into the Buckley agenda and purely on King snd how they respect the Cats prelim next week..

Can you explain this further? I'm not sure Buckley has lied at all. It is possible since Melbourne started their coach search he always genuinely considered both Tassie and us, yes?

No doubt. But when he said it was too quick for him and he was meeting Tassie next week, then he had decide whether he was either in or out and not hold us to ransom.

My main point is, though, his media mates accused us of a "shoddy" process. The MFC were very much entitled to do what they did.

If I was the Tassie F.C., I would be asking, is this all about you or is it a 2 way transaction?

1 minute ago, Jaded No More said:

Sure - though equally, assistants in other roles might disagree with you.

But the point is that this is not going to be the scorched earth approach that some here have been advocating for. We may well see only one change in the line/gameday coaches.

FWIW, if I was Chaplin and the offer is there (though he's contracted in any case), I'd be staying. He's already worked with Yze, and whatever happens you'd imagine that we'll be more successful next season than Richmond, which would give him more browny points.

I am astonished that the usual media suspects have already tried to pot the club, with comments being along the line that ours was a shoddy process.

Apparently, Buckley has commented that the process was too quick for him and his media mates have fallen in behind his position. It is clear to me now that Buckley played the MFC and used his so-called candidacy as a strategy to put the wind up Tassie. In other words, it is obvious that Buckley never intended to take the Melbourne job.

Very cynical in my view and I am p155ed off.

On a positive IWS at least we don’t have to pretend to like FIGJAM.

Just dreaming, but wouldn't it be great if King coming on Board provided extra support/Impetus for Big Max to nail his 9th AA.

Only falling off his bike will stop that IMO.

I’m sure if Buckley was the one they wanted they would have waited until next week!

All premiership coaches started as 1st time untried senior coaches , go Kingy!

This exactly!! King can’t even start doing anything for a couple of weeks potentially, so waiting a week wouldn’t have been the reason. I think they clearly thought King was the best and wanted him, but Buckley answering that question the way he did also indicated he wasn’t really able to commit so that also wasn’t great.

if he was right though they would have waited 100%.

Bucks wasn’t right, King was, and I trust the process and can’t wait for him to start!

The idea we didn’t want to wait for Buckley is so silly. King is finishing off with the cats so he may not officially start until after the grand final anyway so timeline is no different

This guy has done everything in the game except lead his own AFL side and by all accounts had a terrific interview. There are no guarantees in life anyway so I'm just excited to see what he will bring to our famous football club.

As for NB, if he really was our guy we would have waited another week. Or wouldn't have interviewed anyone else. The media anointed him our next coach, not the panel we assembled and like everyone not employed by the MFC he will continue take up 0% of my thoughts.

Never a truer word spoken JNM.

Poor Bucks wasn't first choice and media and him will spin it somehow. The analysis on SEN this morning was laughable. Clearly those boys - Gerard included - have never had a real job or been in the employment business.

They just can't get their head around Bucks not being preferred and attempts to justify this were comedy gold.

As I have said on here before, my Pies maes are rapt for the Dees. They were scarred by 10 years of Bucks at their team and absolutelty warned me off him.. As well as the appalling handover process by McGuire but taht's another story.

The media is risible in this country

Immigration

Gas cartel

You name it

Risible

Hopefully for Maynard mostly. I’ve got visions of him being Theon Greyjoy’d.

As a long term cyclist I can tell you the odds of falling off are extremely low

More likely to be hit/knocked off

This is coming from someone with many thousands of km of Melbourne commuting by bike and training

Just listened to this and I thought Big G was great. Seems like we have found one here I reckon.

Really liked it when he called our best buddy Caroline W, Carol ha ha god she irritates me. She did try to mud rake with her questions but Big G answered them beautifully.

He also mentioned that King was the best of the bunch including FIGJAM.

Hopefully success follows King.

Fantastic interview from our CEO, Caro sounded like gutter journalist but Paul still tried to answer her obviously provocative questions with class.

Loved his answers and love his class and polish, he’s just terrific and very inspiring for our future.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
