I hope we pick him up.

Unlike your Sharps, Fullarto ns, Schaches, Derksens, Dunstans etc..this guy's a serious AFL footballer with classy disposal. He'd be our first meaningful acquisition from another club since Langdon and Tomlinson from 2019.

I wouldn't be trading out Trac if know I'm getting Flanders in.

Steven May says hello :)

Am I correct in remembering that Barassi ordered Baker to have a haircut and shave his beard when he took over as coach in 1981?

Steven May was prior to those mentioned and came across in the 2018 trade period.

Agree he would be the biggest acquisition we've had this decade so far. He'd give us 8-10 years of good football like Langdon will, and has versatility to perform to a high standard as a ball winning midfielder or flanker at either end.

Big yes to this trade!

Flanders for our future 1st 2026 pick .., thoughts?

My thoughts on it today were adding a death ride campaign back into things.

Pick 23 and 2026 future 1st to Carlton

Carlton’s future 1st to us

Carlton’s (TDK, or if the silvagni one is end of 1st rnd and enough) compo pick to gc for Flanders

Carlton get to death ride us and have Walker coming in next year, need max points. Also their compo is likely to get eaten up by a bid on dean this year.

Main concern is if Carlton have enough to get the trade over the line and can sell Flanders on a single colour jumper, we are in trouble. But if he nominates the dees, it’s a good starting point if not a fair trade all round. There may be quibbling for extras, but also a chance it’s an absolute steal for us if we jump Carlton on the ladder next year.

I like your theory but I don’t see us getting 2 first rounders for Trac. If a team absorbs his wage, I reckon it will be 1 first rounder at best.

Has a team ever given up 2 firsts for a 30yo mid?

Not that I can recall but I assume Merrett will be the 1st. I do think Trac is better than Merrett but his Tracs wage is the issue

There is a point at which you say how much is being in the window for a premiership worth. Are the Giants really in contention if they go into next season with no A grade midfielder to supplement what's there + the loss of Kelly? Maybe. However, in my opinion, I'd put them in the making up the numbers category.

Late first rounders are junk picks half the time, a team like the Crows would trade a couple for 5 years of Trac in a heartbeat, if we need to chip in with the $ to maximise the picks we get, sobeit

Lest We Forget.

My great uncle sadly is there and no one knows where!

St Kilda understood to be the front runners for Flanders.

So, they’ve got in Silvagni, TDK, Alir and Flanders.

They’ve retained NWM, Windhager and will get back Max King for 40-50 goals.

They’ll probably lose Marshall but TDK completely offsets that.

Now that is what you called smashing an off season. St Kilda will play finals next year.

Where has that been reported?

Sam Edmund just then on SEN.

Whilst he said St Kilda, Carlton, Essendon and Melbourne will interview him this week, Edmund made it clear that St Kilda are the front runners.

And to be frank, they are the most enticing out of the 4 clubs. We are going backwards at a rate of knots, Carlton don’t know if they’re coming or going and Essendon are a complete rabble.

Edmund hinted we’d be second on that list due to the King connection.

I’m not sure they would be front runners, they won’t have salary left.

We can pretty much guarantee he gets midfield time, or wing or really wherever he wants. Plus probably can throw a bit more coin at him that St Kilda don’t really have after they have blown it all on three players.

King also has ties to Flanders.

Fingers crossed at least.

Don't they want Liam Ryan too?
Marshall out, Wilkie to follow?

Yeah, i remember the Saints smashing trade periods previously. Crouch, Hannebery, Z Jones, B Hill, it worked out well for them.

I think you'll find this has a lot more to do with the contract on offer than the midfield time, he'd get that at any of the 4 options, but in this case he's going to get a significant payrise by going to the Saints.

I am really happy for Melbourne to bow out of this race rather than overpaying, Flanders is a good young player but if the talk about what is being offered to him is even remotely true it's not someone we're any chance of getting.

Yeah I forgot about Ryan. A gun on his day but I wonder if it’s completely necessary to also get him.

Wilkie will stay in my opinion, for at least another year, even if he’s disgruntled. Completely defeats the purpose of going on a recruitment drive and then letting your best defender out the door.
