Farewell Charlie Spargo

It's tough. Spargo and so many others showed a lot in the VFL game. But at the end of the day we have to reduce our senior list by 3 players before the draft under AFL rules and we also have to reduce the rookies by at least 2 which we got as extras due to the long term injury list. You would also want to bring some young blood onto the rookie list. So I would suggest it will come down to at least 7 delistings.

What rule does this fall under?

clubs are mandated to take 3 ND picks (can include rookie promotions) and we also have +2 on our list as a result of AMW and McAdams LTI so we re required to make at least 5 changes, two of which need to come from the rookie list (or promote 2 rookies to the senior list and make additional space there)

What are the rules about reducing 3 players?

Thanks

Thanks,

What is the reasoning behind this rule?

Is this yearly? Never even knew of it. What is its purpose?

yep annually, id say its 70% to protect clubs from themselves and promote list turnover which also regenerates the age of lists and 30% to ensure the pathways are rewarded and kids get exposure

I’m not against it. Glad you explained it, thanks.

Cal Twoemey just stated that Charlie Spargo is looking increasingly likely to head to North as a free agent.

Going to kangas ,his dad played there

Always a premiership player

  • Demonland changed the title to Farewell Charlie Spargo

Love him. Sad to see him go.

He looked flat last night at the B&F. I assumed he’d made his mind up.

Didn’t help that his wing was in a sling but even so. Flat.

I just love that we see the word Premiership preceding the word Demon

Got his face as one of my Watch faces with the Spargod moniker

Another from the '21 group departs.

I'll miss Charlie. I think with a full and inury free pre-season he'll have a good 2026.

No animosity here. Good luck to him.

Sad to see you go Charlie, but thanks for your service.

Smart player and one of our better users. Will always be a premiership demon. Thanks for your service Charlie.

Wonder who the club is going to rush into the best 22 now off multiple injuries and no pre-season? Don't blame him for wanting a fresh start.

It's a little sad to see Spargo-go, but all the best Charlie.

Let's hope his more vocal detractors on here refrain from gravedancing.

Would assume hes got a 6 month recovery following the dislocation at Casey. Wonder what our FA compensation would be for him 2nd or 3rd rounder??

Was never the same after that Achillis injury

Wish him the best

It's Game Day on Friday night. ANZAC Eve. The big stage at the ‘G. The Demons return to the spotlight for one of our most significant nights on the football calendar, taking on the Tigers in a clash that always carries extra weight given the gravity of occasion of the commemoration of the ANZAC Spirit. Under the lights, in front of a packed house, this is where moments are made. Can the Dees rise to the occasion and deliver on the big stage, or will Richmond spoil the night? All the build-up, discussion, and in-game reactions here. Go Dees.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

Before Sunday, the last time the Brisbane Lions had walked onto the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they celebrated the pinnacle of the sport - an AFL premiership secured in emphatic fashion for the second consecutive year.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
