Why are people surprised Trac is finishing high? Everyone heaps [censored] on him because he's not at his peak of being the best player in the league, but he's still a good player and had a good year. He bettered all his main career average stats bar marking and was our best midfielder.

Talk him down and hate him all you want - he's still better than most running round in red and blue, even at his current level.

People have their narratives now. Reality bends into those shapes.

Almost makes up for being a 5 foot nothing red head. Talk about winning the genetic lottery

As a 5 foot nothing red head I’m very offended 😔😂

2nd place.

Great year 👏👏 No surprise he was runners up

Came back to get back on the field and showed he is a star player.

Had a few nearly games which perhaps was reflected in our year … Hope next year he nails more goals, backs himself and brings his very best

Windsor took his mum and the pic said Windsor and partner

was updated very quickly by the work experience kid.

The social media memorial trophy

Trac odds on to win that one

"That Salem bloke should be traded. Too slow and doesn't impact games.

One of our main issues."

5th best this year at 30yo! Go Salo! Don't listen to the so-called supporters

Well that shows how bad we are then.

Max is the best spoken player in the league. Funny, authentic, engaging. Absolute legend.

Glad to hear his mum is doing better with her health.

To be honest, not sure why people are surprised with any of this. Though once again, it shows the gulf between what professional AFL coaches see and what Jo Bloggs supporter sees.

Great to see Clarrie in the top 10, he's not as far off as people think.

Trent Rivers - EQUAL 10TH

Thought he’d go higher

Definitely a player we want to keep

Was rated as above average in most categories as a rebounding half back.

I'm not going to hate on Trac, but really can't see how he should finish 2nd. Stats are one thing, but I struggle to remember where he used the ball effectively enough to make a big positive impact on the game.

Wouldn't argue against him finishing somewhere in the top ten, but to me that Bowie finishes below him in 4th, just makes our B&F like the brownlow - another midfielder's medal. I'd probably also have rated Melksham above both Salem and Trac this season.

Some really surprising results tonight. But Gawny winning was pretty obvious nobody really challenged him.

Thought Kozzy and Bowser would have taken 2 and 3.

How’s Langford for top 10 in his first year! Kids gonna be something special.

Trac 2nd seems high for the year he had.

You’re judging him against himself. That’s not how it works. It’s his season judged against that of his peers.

Trac actually came second in the Demonland Player of the Year, so most DLers are on board.

In fact DL picked the top 4 in the same order as the club. I was surprised by Salo and Chandler's high finishes like most DLrs I suspect.

Congratulations to Captain Max Gawn on his third Keith Bluey Truscott Best and Fairest award.

Can’t recall a better acceptance speech, croaky voice and all. Gracious, generous, empathetic and thoroughly good humoured. Bravo!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
