Was a bit of the fall guy for that. He actually manoeuvred the list to cull the bad cap and as you say, worked out in the end in the best way🏆

Luckily we’ve already sorted our cap out relatively.

No money to Trac, Brayshaws pay out is ongoing and we have to fork out Clarry’s 650k. At least it’s a clean slate and he knows what he’s working with.

Been working in the AFL too analysing all the player movement and the ins & outs of all the clubs lists in the last 3 years too. I reckon it’s a good get.

Would imagine he'll have as strong an insight into the Tassie Devil list concessions and associated rules as anyone, which will be more than handy as we navigate over the next 3 years.

Spot on. Can’t go wrong with someone from the ‘inside’. Similar to Steve Hocking being appointed at Geelong right after being at the AFL.

Ned Guy does anyone know him, seems like a bit of a mixed bag of skills and experiences with player management, Clubland list management and four years in at the AFL. Head of Strategy and Innovation for men’s and women’s programs, how does he fit into the Org chart, who does he report to and who reports to him?

Looking forward to Demonland expertise providing some detail on this role.

The big Pros are that he's been under the hood at AFL House and will know every contract, all the list rules and where the AFL are likely steering the game and rules.

The Cons being he was a player manager, who then became the fall Guy for the Pies, that's not exactly a long history in footy management

All good questions DeeZone. Be interesting to know the job description and is it a match day “strategy” role or more an off field direction of the club “ strategy” role.

I was hoping for a Craig Jennings type role.

The latter.

Reading between the lines, to make sure the Board, Admin and FD are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

it has nothing to do with on-field

from my understanding, ned is a massive mfc fan

..hope not. That role is for the Board and CEO.

No idea what this is about….still can’t work out what Richardson is doing if this role is needed???

This was the role that we were baiting Bartel with that seemingly had all the fun stuff a Footy Dept Head has without the pastoral care or ‘people stuff’…

So Richo does that until he leaves once his contract is up.

I have to say I am not a fan of this role; strategy and driving to a North Star should be of shared understanding and goal and not the responsibility of one person.

Overall Club Strategy - Guerra

List management Strategy - Lamb

Gameday Strategy - King.

I still dont understand what this new role is actually doing. I don't really fully understand Richardson role either.

Thankyou in advance to anyone who can explain it.

Who needs Tom Morris when the AFL is leaking important club news! Poor form:

"The AFL and Melbourne are currently on leave, but the Demons are expected to confirm the appointment before Christmas".

What if we wanted a press conference etc!

I don't know why I formed this view, but I had assumed the role was long-term strategy. For example, understanding where the AFL product will be in the longer term, such as (say) in 7-10 years' time. Our club should be making decisions on player retention and selection taking both a short-term and long-term view. The short-term decisions should be the responsibility of King, Lamb, Taylor and Richardson, and equivalent for AFLW. The longer-term decisions should be the province of the Board, CEO and Ned Guy.

To make those longer-term decisions, the club needs to understand as best as possible what the competition will look like. What will be the rules of the game? Will it be a 19 or 20 team competition, or something else? What will be the future of Next Generation Academies and the Father/son, father/daughter rules? What will list sizes be? What will happen to the rookie list and other structural issues associated with list sizes? What will the salary cap be? What will be expected with injury management (eg, concussion rules)? And so on. There's a lot there for someone to be working on while not being distracted by the current day-to-day stuff.

I’m a fan of the Guera era. Not sure what this bloke is actually doing but he will have a strong purpose. All our appointments so far have been spot on since Guera came on (even slightly before) when he was working in the back ground

Bing! Sure as heck fire!

"Salary cap's a bit tight. Let's trade Caleb Windsor for a fifth rounder - am I right or am I right or am I right?"

First time in ages, I'm really feeling positive for the off field leadership of the club.
