CASEY: Elimination Final vs Williamstown

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is already in another thread but who is available from MFC to play?

The Seagulls have been a plucky outfit and appeared to be in big trouble when they lost to Collingwood on their home turf at DSV Stadium, their windswept home ground at Point Gellibrand. They dropped out of the top ten and had to win there against Richmond in the final round to make the finals. They got up against the Tigers, then reversed the result against the Magpies at Victoria Park yesterday to face up to Casey next Saturday in the Elimination Final. Glad that this week's game is at Casey Fields and not DSV Stadium.

Clever fixturing to have all 4 games on at basically the same time.

Right. So no AFL games this weekend, we'll whack all of the VFL finals on at the same time.

They're imbeciles

Different qualification rules being thrown about on this site. It would be helpful if the Club could clarify the situation on the website. More than a third of our list still having a crack in the "second"competition.

Billings
Laurie
Woewodin
Brown
Fullarton
Adams
Campbell
Verrall
Mentha
Kentfield
Sestan (assuming fitness)

Question marks:
AJ - surely should be eligible
Tholstrup - possibly eligible?
Spargo - seems unlikely to be eligible

Inj: Jefferson, Henderson

Culley, if fit?

I'll try and pick the team.

B: Freeman, Adams, Howes

HB: Bonner, Fullerton, Sestan

C: Billings, Laurie, Culley

HF: Mentha, Johnson, Spargo

F: Brown, Kentfield, Yze

FOLL: Campbell, Tholstrup, Woewodin

IC: Verrall, Lual, Baldi, Edwards, 23rd man

Any update on Jeffo's injury KC?

There is nothing on the club’s website about the Casey game this weekend.

Why?

I have just spoken to a woman at the club and she doesn’t know why.

She said you would have to speak to marketing.

I asked to be put through to marketing and she said “there is no direct line”.

That l could send an email to the club and it will be passed onto marketing.

I am gob smacked!

Surely the club wants to promote Casey, our seconds team PLAYING IN THE FINALS?

I wil send an email and see what response l get.

Sheesh.

Well, it looks like that marketing effort about one club has come and gone pretty quickly...

Anyone going down the Monash for this game?

I have previous commitments so can't make it.

Do we know if we would still play at Casey if they go into the next round?

If we beat the Gulls, we play the loser of Footscray V Frankston at their home ground.

Right, forgot about our ladder position.

I was just thinking that in previous years we would play home finals at Princes Park.

Some rivalry chances there against Frankston 🤣

I really hope the MFC support the Casey alliance and make all eligible players available for the entire finals campaign.

I'm a firm believer that playing as many high stakes games as possible against experienced opposition is much more valuable for young players than getting in an extra week or two of pre season running.

Why aren’t you working at the MFC?!

I’m going to the game but I’m not going down the Monash. I’m going by train, bus, replacement bus, paddle steamer, rickshaw and penny-farthing.

I’m going because I want to but also because after their last match Luker said, “You’ll come and watch me in the final, won’t you.” How could I say No. 🥹

Hi it’s me again re MFC and Casey.other AFL clubs - Footscray, Brisbane Lions, Richmond and the Hawks who have teams in the VFL finals, have reports on when and where their teams are playing this weekend.

Mostly because I'm in year 11 😅 However its a dream of mine in the future to work in a business or law capacity at the club

I'll be there. Should we win it is unlikely the next game will be at Casey because we will play the loser of the Footscray/Frankston Qualifying Final - so probably either the Whitten Oval or Frankston as those teams finished 1st and 4th.

Frankston would be a great venue on a nice 20 degree sunny day. Whitten oval has lost its character

One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
