Sharp is the most useless player i’ve ever seen.

Mate I've been calling this since round 3. The guy is a genuine potato and its an absolute shocker that we have genuinely gifted him 17 games this year whilst guys like Laurie, Billings and Brown have rotted away at Casey.

Lets take a look at his output as a sub shall we..

I'd rather keep Oliver over Trac. i have withered and waned on this all year. But im sick to death of Trac not playing with intent / agression? That last kick from May which went to sidebottom - Trac should have absolutely cleaned him up. He would have been protected by the footy act and all. He had the perfect opp to get some type of revenge. All night he played with fear running through him.

I really do hope he requests a trade over anybody else. i want him gone.

I understand the emotion around it because I find it very frustrating as well, he’s just not anywhere near as physical as he used to be.

Good reason to get a new coach, find someone who can motivate him again. And Oliver, the kids etc

Bye bye 2025.. one of the most disheartening seasons of recent memory.

Let's look at this game in isolation.

It showed how both Petracca and Oliver are built for high pressure, finals like matches. I am back and forth on whether we keep both. But boy do they love games like this.

Salem, Bowey and May all had good games. May bounced back after a shocking start.

I am super impressed by this performance tonight. We bloody took it to them. Pies had more to play for.

Langford is a gun.

I am bullish on what this squad can do. I hope it doesn't break up too much.

We should be playing finals. We're not.

Reboot. Get a new coach in.

And then do to Collingwood in finals what we did to Geelong in 2021.

This is what I want to think.

The Demonland consensus pre-game was that we were no chance and going to be belted. They kicked 2 quick early goals and I'm sure the Game Day thread assumed a 10-goal loss was on its way.

So we clearly did well to exceed those expectations (by a lot) and play what was at times really strong football that suggests we ought to be in the top 9, not the bottom 6.

But then of course I see us lose yet another close game. I see us lose yet another fourth quarter. Yet another late lead squandered. 5 behinds in the first three quarters but then 5 behind in the fourth when we just needed someone to find a goal. Pressure goes up and we revert to consistent long kicks to the hot spot over, and over, and over. Gawn tries to do it all himself.

So the fourth quarter was the "perfect" end to this disaster of a season. It encapsulated almost everything that's wrong with us, the more so because it came off the back of 2.5 quarters of really good footy.

I fell for it.

Even at 3QT I was level headed. Even said Collingwood were still favourites, I would have been laughed out of the building if we were in one.

Trac kicks that goal and I couldn't help it. My mind was already repeating the line:

"That was for 2017..."

We make one error in the middle and the pendulum swung dramatically, to the point we all of us would have paid $100 for a goal.

You cannot, repeat cannot turn the ball over in the centre square against this mob. To see 5 Collingwood players ahead of the ball was soul destroying but also the fact that we simply don't run with oppositions anymore and two way running is dead in our side.

The bathwater drinking days are over.

Gosh what a wasted year.

I hope all those fawning over the filth see this for the reality check it is.

That was nowhere near a flag winning performance.

Was tonight everyone’s first time watching Melbourne this year? I’m stunned by the shock and anger at this result. Disappointment I get, but surely our inability to win when we’re in a position to this year was known and expected?

I was worried we might fizzle out and get spanked, or half-arse it to a timid 30 point loss. I’m just relieved.

Plenty to work with for the new coach. Adios season 2025.

Oh so typical result us vs the Filth. We had more of the ball and more inside 50’s but once again got stage fright. Turned it off & watched the Storm instead halfway through the last. You just knew what was coming. The Filth are protected species by the AFL.

We are the biggest panic merchants in the game.

Nothing to lose.

Pies a double chances.

But we are them ones who panic and lose.

As long as May leaves.

Jvr goes.

Petty goes.

Glass man Lever leaves.

And Sparrow gets the boot all won't be a total.loss.

Spargo too.

And KP is paid way too much. He's a star but not a super star.

Great game from Oliver.

Tracc not better but turned it over early.

Max still a star.

Fritta great game.

But Petty one touch in the last three quarters is woeful.

Just when he seemed to be getting better.

chandler not involved enough and I'm and Langdon average despite finishing better.

I guess we played better than I thought but to.lose that was like the saints game.

Another there for the taking but we just Panicked again.

Good riddance 2025.

And goodbye to a lot of the has been from other clubs we have picked up.

McAdam,....Billings..,.Laurie...Hore......worry.

That's ten players all up we should move on ASAP.

That's a lot.

Get in the bin

Go follow Collingwood then.

Watch the Suns roll over now too

Im positive

Two new competent forwards and we win that. And a ruck forward to replace JVR. Hes reminding me of Cordner who looked a million dollars, had a leap but could not hold a mark.

That entire game was more predictable than a Jason Statham movie. Would have loved to [censored] with Collingwood’s season but we all knew that was never going to happen. Whatever. But Bucks has his work cut out - a lot of our players have absolutely no composure when it matters.

Langford is one player though who has it in spades. I could name a ton of things I liked, but keeping the ball in at the end in the back half and gaining significant territory was so … I dunno, cool? And not what I’m used to seeing from someone wearing red and blue cloth. Then there was that 50m goal off a step. Geez he’s good, hope he doesn’t [censored] the bed Windsor style next year because he could be our best player very soon.

KEEP CLARRY AT ALL COSTS. The last month or so he’s clearly getting back to, not his A grade best, but something not too far off. Please don’t ship him off to Geelong for a second rounder. Trac I’m not quite as invested in but if he wants to buy in to the club, then I’m happy for him to stay too.

Congratulations to Max Gawn on 8 blazers. Congratulations to Kosi on (likely) making the squad.

Worst season since 2019 but we’ll be back! Go Dees.

OK positives

Langford what a game

Max again just gave everything

Daicos probably didn't get any brownlow votes

We've probably kicked the pies out of top 4

Negatives

1 goal 5 in the final quarter

Rivers blazing away for goal

May, enough said

Again another close loss

Sparrow disappointing

Losing all composure again

There's some genuine positives. Amongst them:

A few highly promising kids coming in with Mentha, White and Toby Sinnema, who I particularly like. Sure I'm missing one.

AMW will come back

Langford will be a season in and already looks a star

New coach and a more settled admin.

Not just this year, but goes back to the 2023 finals. Lack of on-field leadership, maturity and cool heads, coupled with too many on the list who are not all that smart with ball in hand and/or understand what they should do but don't have the skills to execute.

People can say all they want about a new coach, but unless we can fix this we're not going very far. Some improvement can come from within through the younger players, but in itself that's not going to be enough.

So flat after that. The third quarter was about as exciting football as we've played in years and we just went to pieces in the last as usual.

1 touch and It was dead set the worst handball you’ll ever see too. The guy sucks. Sorry but he does. One of the great mysteries how he keeps getting games.

May is not up to it anymore. Trac is disinterested and lacked effort tonight. We lack soul and a bit of mongrel. Clarrie will be better next year and Langdon will be a gun

100%. But we are close. I think we need to be really careful with our list decisions because some polish, some refinements turn those six-ish games by less than 10 points into wins. I get the feeling there is a push internally to make changes regarding Oliver and Petracca... I don't know where I sit. We have lost far more close games than we've won... that can turn quickly. We haven't been the same since the 2023 finals series but tonight was as close as we've gotten to that team that year. We have too many guns to be where we are. I just feel like tonight was more a positive than a negative for us.

Was at the game, god knows why?

Haven’t seen that many [censored] turnovers in a long time (1 week to be exact). 2025 season thank god is over.

I enjoyed the game apart from the result. The dare and dash that got us ahead in the 3rd disappeared in the last when things got tight.

Unfortunately our so called best players lack the skill and composure that is needed to be successful in today's game and when the pressure builds we revert to type while teams like Collingwood have players that don't panic and execute when needed to win. Harvey Langford showed he is the future tonight and has both skill and composure our senior players lack

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
