At least you've never had to listen to Brian Taylor.

Snoop's real name is Calvin Broadus. BT's nickname is Bargearse. Make of that what you will.

I hope Snoop brings his rain jacket

you know.... Fo' Drizzle

Tbh... the last thing I'd want to subject myself is Rap. Never appealed.

Glad I'll be home not watching that bit.

Each to own 🤷‍♂️

Dunno. But keep me away from Dutch ovens!

If I was old in 1993 I am most certainly now the ‘living dead’. So sad.

(Still couldn’t name one of his songs now to save my life).

Wodja, Snoop in his infinite wisdom foresaw the fact that you don't know him, or even his name so more than 30 years ago wrote he wrote this primer just for you:

Boomer: I’m not racist. But. Why can’t we have a white-middle-aged-to-older Aussie act?

Careful Ethan, your “woke” is showing here.

From the Age:

Groups fighting to end violence against women are demanding the AFL scrap Snoop Dogg as the main act at next month’s grand final pre-game show.

The rapper’s history of using misogynistic and sexually demeaning lyrics, and the fact he has discussed his past working as a pimp, make him a “dangerous” choice of performer on a weekend when violence against women spikes by up to 40 per cent, they say.

Respect Victoria chair Kate Fitz-Gibbon, who was instrumental in the creation of Australia’s National Plan to End Violence Against Women, described the AFL’s choice of Snoop Dogg as a “grave mistake” given his “public history of boasting about violence against women”.

“It is unfathomable that the AFL would deem this artist as [an] appropriate choice for its flagship event,” Fitz-Gibbon said.

Wish the GF entertainment was just a showcase for Aussie artists. Temper Trap were one of the better performance we got back in 2012

Then there were ‘Tones n I’, who were up there with Meatloaf. Personally, I’m not too fussed who performs. I don’t think it’s a great spectacle during the day either way.

Sia?

It's been alluded to earlier in this thread, but let's be real: grand final entertainment peaked in 1991.

For my money, @Mel Bourne and @binman have the right idea.
SO many great Australian bands at the moment (and always, really)

Happily live without anything. Just the Footy is fine.

I dont mind overseas performers if it brings a global audience but I have no time for wrap music.

I would have preferred someone like Keith Urban who has local and an international profile.

Is it the 80's and we're talking about NWA again?

If Eminem came out, would there be the same outcry? His lyrics are far more explicit

Snoop has been married for 30 years and has never committed acts of violence against women. He did grow up in the gangs and poverty and had to get out doing whatever necessary

Music is art, like a movie - if you sing or rap something it doesn't mean you support it.

He is good enough for the Super Bowl and the Olympics but I guess the AFL is a moral step too far. Maybe he should stick a finger up someone's jacksy to be clear to perform

Pop/Rap also been dominating the Super Bowl for quite a while.

Seems organizers want a spectacle - in terms of current rock acts that sort of limits you to Springsteen, McCartney, Metallica, Linkin Park, Green day, Foo Fighters level acts.
Then you'd jump down to the level of Coldplay, Kings of Leon, RHCP, Blink-182, Jack White and some Country bands that may not be as universally known.

Id like an Aussie band but i'm sure the big brass would want a BIG name only which limits it to really AC/DC or a Silverchair/Powderfinger Reunion - and even that's pushing it

I would have preferred the VFL Grand Final

If Crowded House are back up and running (playing at Mornington in a couple of months' time), then it would be ideal for them to sing "Don't dream it's over" to the Collingwood army.

I can only dream.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
