Look to be fair, for whatever reason they were probably thinking that Longmire and Simpson were pushing each other over to get through the door.

I'd seen a few people bring him up throughout the year. There's certainly been a sense about him that he'd return to coaching at some point. When he was asked about the role he appeared quite eager which was a pleasant surprise.

Then Longmire and Simpson pulled out and the question basically became Buckley or a random assistant so it's no surprise people started warming to the known candidate.

You must have forgotten what Roos inherited. We were North / West Coast level bad. How is Clarkson going at North?

We played finals 1 year after he left, which was something we hadn't done in over a decade prior.

He changed the trajectory of this club, and set the foundations for Goody.

When he took over, did you think we'd win a flag in your lifetime? I sure as hell didn't.

We are in a completely different place now with our list, but I still believe that what we need most is a cultural/ attitude/ mental reset. More than we need a new game plan or a list overhaul.

I’m coming around to the idea of Buckley coaching us. Not so much for his game plan (not much difference to goody) more so he’ll check the egos and put an end to the BS that’s derailed our recent seasons

I said the “best of the remaining coaches (after Longmire and Simpson had pulled out) not the best experienced coach.

When Demons won 2021 flag expectations were for multiple flags with the list and domination of that final series!

The results got progressively worse each season thereafter! I feel we were unlucky with injuries in 2023!

Our forward line and entries into the forward have not improved from 2022-2025, this is a coaching issue!

After a shocking start to the season, then many close losses and finally a disastrous 4th quarter loss to the Saints, where the team was in disarray. These issues ultimately stamped Goodwins ticket out!

Commercial maybe part of the reason, but not the reason Goodwin was fired!

Watching tonight it’s hard to argue against someone from Geelong over Buckley’s fairly unimpressive coaching tenure. The game is constantly changing and Geelong seem right at the forefront of it

Honestly it was like when Roosey chose the Dees. I dared not think it because I didn't think he would be crazy enough.

Mate he took over a list that wasn't even VFL standard and with the worst percentage I can remember. He knew it wasn't going to be easy and that it would undermine his past success but he did it anyway. You can't judge his win loss at the Dee's for anything given when he started we were so bad the afl had to step in.

Hearing Green saying the criteria of 8 years experience as a coach , not sure why the footy world needs to hear this, Scott & Macrae I’m sure didn’t have 8 years ( could be wrong) an both are premiership coaches with possibly another flag coming up! Keep this stuff in house!
