I agree with all your points Redleg.

The other critical thing is that the successful candidate has to really want it. They need to be driven to achieve success with us and have the vision and desire to lead us there with them.

My preference is Longmire, but I don't want someone doing it half-hearted with their mind/family in Sydney; or just doing it for the money.

It's a minor factor. Every club has pros and cons.

Carlton are likely to be the only other side in the coaching market. They have better facilities with less travel (although getting from the inner South East where more coaches live to Princes Park every day is a real pain). But they also have 20+ years of incompetence and fire coaches every 3 years.

We're talking about elite athletes who spend a quarter of their lives trying to build their bodies to compete in one of the more demanding sports in the world.

A competition so ruthless that any small advantage is worth its weight in gold.

Somwhow, methinks it's not a minor factor..

Correct me if I’m wrong but the % of recycled coaches would be a lot lower than 1st time coaches.

Absolutely nailed it Redleg.

I legitimately feel like an untried assistant isn't an option for us considering the pounding we've copped from headquarters, the media and even Parliament over the last several years (noting a lot of that was driven by own goals).

We need a coach that comes with industry wide respect and credibility. Horse and Bucks both tick that box.

Personally I have flip flopped over the last 2 days regarding which I'd prefer but feel like both have a very good chance at succeeding.

A question I've had rolling around in my head for the past 24 hours, greater minds can enlighten me: when a new coach is signed, to what extent would they have a say in who sits under them as assistants? Is it better to keep the current roster, or let the new coach bring their own preferred mix?

I would love to see Cameron Bruce back at the club in some capacity. Development coach/assistant at Hawthorn during the 3 peat, some time at Carlton and Lions midfield coach since 2022 overseeing big change.

I reserve the right to be way off base with this, but I always thought he was someone who left the club possibly disgruntled with the way the club was treating their senior leaders at the time ie. Junior, White, Robbo, Yze. I would love to see this come full circle and for me would be the most exciting addition since Yze returned.

Someone from the Clarko/Fagan tree is always a plus as well.

Now that this is confirmed, it makes for a really interesting sliding doors moment for both clubs. Melbourne has taken a new path to get better while Carlton is staying the course and sticking by Voss.

It's going to be a really interesting narrative next year and both clubs will be heavily compared. I'm surprised Voss survived but I also think Wright is a very astute operator so he must have a good reason.
