I want someone hungry for it and who is an innovator to take the game where its going next. They need to be able to motivate or make the hard decisions at our top end and mould, acclerate and galvanise the 24 and unders that will be the core of our next period of potential success.

Longmire I dont feel it, great motivator and leader but I dont think he's an innovator.

Simpson I see the innovation and motivation (subject to circumstance) but maybe not the galvaniser/accelerator.

Hinkley has already ruled himself out based on timing and I think needs a year out to recharge though would be a good senior assistant for the right up and comer (has crossover with Enright).

A more mature, second time Bucks I see all of it.

I can see Simpson shepherding the right up and comer as GM (likely) or senior assistant. Pratt I suggest is the most likely option that would gel being they have worked together and he rates him. I also would not exclude Enright or Jamie Graham from that conversation.

Bucks my preference if we go experienced.

Pratt, Enright, Bruce if we go untried with a new experienced GM or senior assistant to support (Simpson my preferred) .

I worry we might scare off the likes of Longmuir. It's not a stable setup at the moment. We had better pull our finger out quick and start presenting as a competent leadership team, in order to land the coach or coaches we want.

I think it has to be an experienced coach as well. Or at the very least an experienced assistant to guide things. Throwing an untried coach in there as his first job feels way too risky with how unstable we are at the moment.

Buckley’s time was also bookended by premierships before and after his rein, and he improved the sides ladder position only once in his 9 seasons at the helm.

certainly was impressive to rebuild the list and make a GF. A list that didn't need rebuilding but nevertheless.

However, by our (eg Goodys) standards he would not have gotten the chance. After 2 years of no finals with a talented list, he would have got the sack.

Interesting to compare the 2 careers. Goody actually has the better finals record too.

I’m not necessarily advocating for Bucks but to be fair McCrae had Nick Daicos from his first year onwards

I get trained by an ex Collingwood player who ..yes ..was under Buckley . Still has strong links with the club. I’ll be having a very interesting chat today. From memory I don’t think there were a lot of positives but I may be wrong as it is awhile ago. My partner is Collingwood & was happy to see Bucks go. Brilliant in the Media & whilst I don’t watch Footy shows anymore I enjoyed his analysis. I’d be happy if that’s where he stayed.

I’m not fully against Buckley. I think he is still hungry for a flag and would have learned a lot from his 9 years at the Pies

For what Goodwin had to work with in 2018, to be the highest scoring side with T-Mac and Fritsch essentially being our 2 main targets- hardly “gorillas” is a massive hats off to him.

Whoever comes in, I would expect Petracca and Pickett in full time midfield roles, who can obviously roll forward and cause a lot of havoc. Honestly, not saying we win the flag, but I can easily see us, with a tactically astute coach return to the top 6. Pies did it after coming 17th and they are notorious for having lackluster forward lines on paper. Mihoeck carried them. F*cking Mihocek. 🤣😂

I do think it would be nice to get an established key forward, but it doesn't solve everything like a lot people think it does.

There's a lot more that goes into it such as game plan, the way the mids kick it in etc. I mean look at Carlton with 2 Coleman medalist Key Forwards , they struggle like crazy to kick a great score for the most part

His language could have been very different, but he chose to publicly put himself up for the position.

None of us outside the club really know who the coach will be and for all we know there could have been a verbal agreement with the new coach hence part of the reason getting rid of Goodwin. Since Goodwin got sacked negotiations may have begun.

You make a very good point Red in the way Bucks spoke about the job and u may very well be right. If he doesn’t know he potentially has the job why talk in that language especially when u consider how simo and horse have spoken about it.

Time will tell.

Longmire playing coy for obvious reasons, but I'd bet a coin or two that he has already been asked and those talks were started a while back and escalated recently. Just a guess, but I think the job is his if he wants it, but he will do his own due diligence.

We will set up a panel to decide on untried assistants if Longmire doesn't want it.

Phil Davis is right and we all know it, Casey is a huge issue, but it's not every training session.

Whatever we do, we need to bring in people from successful organisations, ie; Swans and Cats.

I'd be all for Longmire for 5yrs with a succession plan with Enright (he will have Bomber Thompson, Chris Scott, Ross Lyon & then Longmire as his mentors).

However you'd think Longmire will bring his own army.

We train at Casey ONE DAY PER WEEk for about 9 months.

It might be a convenient reason players/managers give for not coming to mfc but surely it isn't enough to turn down an opportunity.

I'd say the goodies Geelong give out, regularly being in contention, big club, big crowds would be more compelling.

The Casey issue is a bit of a red herring imv, and it is a shame Goodwin drew attention to it.

He has no dog in the fight and what he says is true. Facilities and other issues are a big factor. That said it didn't hold Bucks back.

Watching 360 I suspect both Horse and Simpson were cagey is because Buckley has effectively declared and they wouldn't want to be seen to be in the race and then unsuccessful.

Honestly don't mind the Bucks idea...at first I didn't like it, but warming, especially since he's spent so long analyzing the modern game now and seems to speak very intelligently about all things football, he seems interested and likes the current list etc. he almost talks like an optimistic Melbourne supporter I kind of like it.

Would be wonderful to be able to get a good head coach, and Adam Simpson as a head of football or something like that.
