I want a name coach who can command the respect of our (IMO self-absorbed and entitled) senior players from day one. Adam Simpson would be my preference from this vantage point. He is a premiership coach who led his team to a premiership based on a KPP-based (forward craft mandatory) premiership. That's what we're lacking. But I don't know what no-name assistants are out there, so I am open to anything.

One caller on SEN “heard” the following and before you all hurl vomit at me let me cover myself in a plastic bag.

Simpson ——Carlton

Longmire ——North

Hinkley ———Demons.

I know a few here don’t like Hinkley, but I like the character. To me it wouldn’t be the worst idea.

I don’t know where that leaves Clarko though 😂

Please god no. I'd rather stick with Goodwin than "acquire" Hinkley.

🤔Interesting list 👍

If all else fails I’m probably available for the right price.

I can’t coach but I promise I’ll do a better job managing our comms.

Couldn’t be worse than mark neeld was…

Goody is being paid $1M not to coach in 2026.

I'd be willing to help the club out and not coach for half that sum.

Longmire is the only coach I want out of coaches who’s had a senior gig before. Even then I’d go for an untried coach first.

Revealed: Ex-Swans boss at top of Demons’ wishlist after sudden coach axing

I am happy with the Demons targeting John Longmire.

He has the most experience and would help mould a better culture at the Melbourne Football Club.

However, there are 2 very important questions that need to be asked...

1) Is John Longmire cooked and far too psychologically scarred from losing Grand Finals in 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2024?

2) Would John Longmire actually WANT to coach the Melbourne Football Club?

Here is my concern with Horse. He had the world on a platter at Sydney. Inherited a winning culture, COLA and academy at his disposal. A club well supported by the AFL and a good home ground advantage (although a disadvantage to playing on the G).

With all that he won one flag, which granted are very hard to win, but he also coached a team that was mentally fragile on the biggest stage of all. Twice they got humiliating in a grand final.

I think from setting standards perspective he will be excellent, and he takes no prisoners which I think we need, but likewise is he capable of coming up with a game plan that suits the large MCG? Does he have the fire in the belly? Can he coach without the luxury of top quality academy picks coming his way? Does he want to drive to Casey?

If Longmire is the target then it makes sense that we pulled the trigger now, before Carlton blink on Voss. We definitely don’t want to compete with a big club if we are chasing an experienced guy with a plethora of options.

My preference is still an untried high quality assistant from a winning club, and an experienced GM of footy. That’s the best balance of power IMO.

I like Longmire because imo coaching Sydney is the toughest gig in sport. The Swans are highly scrutinised internally at the AFL because they need to be playing finals to ensure the sport maintains a foothold in the state. There is a lot banking on their success. He did that for more than a decade and imv got Sydney playing good, feared footy for a sustained period. People criticise him because he lost 4 Grand Finals... but he got there. Do not understate how bloody hard it is to win Prelims... and to get there.

He is definitely our man if we want to take this core back to contention quickly.

No more South Australians

I'm thinking of the big picture here.

We need someone that is bigger than just a coach.

We need to get people on side to get our home base in Caulfield. We need connections.

Let them bring who ever they want in.

Buckley and Sanderson

Agree with this assessment, if Goody got us to 4 GF’s in a decade, we wouldn’t be here today.

As supporters, I am sure we would have much preferred being runner up in ‘22 & ‘23 vs our straight sets exit.

Sydney failed in GF’s multiple times but have a lot more finals wins to get there than we do

Ralph reckons we are not a good proposition. Coaches may prefer coaching at Carlton.

Some make this make sense.. Carlton is worse off than us.

As if. Try North, St Kilda, the expansion teams when not stuffed full of free picks or even Freo.

Demtriou cracked it at Roos ball, even since then they’ve been spoiled with advantages and had a very easy path to success.

I think Carlton over estimate a lot of their players abilities. I have watched probably more Carlton games ( well parts of games ) than any other team. In every one of these games they have simply been beaten by players with greater ability. The main problem is not the coach it is the cattle.

I think Carlton are deluded in their expectation. They’re simply no where close to the mark. You look at them to you’re top four right now and they are miles off.

I think the “professionals” and past players and commentators give them such a rev up and I don’t get why. Maybe they’re told to. I’m not sure. But saying openly that they’re “contenders” which they have for years in a row is a joke.

It will be interesting to see what bodies Troy Chaplin has going through the midfield in the next three games.

Also if he is prepared to bring anyone in from Casey.

The messiah coach rarely has premiership success at a 2nd club. I can only think of Matthews in recent times. Best to go with an up-and-comer in my opinion. Who that is I have no idea.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
