I like the bloke

Ive always rated Mihocek and I think structurally will be where he makes the biggest difference.

Free agency compensation:

Band 1 = first round after your pick.

Band 2 = end of first round.

Band 3 = second round after your pick.

Band 4 = end of second round.

Band 5 = third round after your pick.

Cal Twomey suggests the Spargo compensation is band 2 (pick 27) or 3 (pick 41)

It's questionable that Collingwood would get any compensation at all for Mihocek. Even if they do it would be band 3 (pick 57).

We have picks 26, 58 and 63. It would be silly to dilute our compo pick, especially if it's band 2. We may have do a trade to move pick 58 up a few places to compensate Collingwood.

Pretty happy with this. I’d like to think he takes the oppo’s premier defender allowing JVR, Fritta and Melksham the opportunity to play on weaker defenders.

Or Melksham tags a Harris Andrews, Jacob Weitering or Cal Wilkie allowing Checkers to play on a weaker defender.

He really got a hold of us in 2021 and 2022 so it’s nice to see him in our colours next year.

If we're outside our window aren't we better off getting a youngish forward (aged 20-35 would be perfect) who will be part of our finals in 2-3 years after our mini rebuild?

I guess none wanted to come to us but surely there's a few high potential developing forwards in the twos of other clubs.

Who would that be?

I have a different 'take' on Lewis. I don't think he played particularly well.

Third in our Best and Fairest in his first year with us.

Was a key player in shifting the culture that eventually led to the flag.

Great acquisition. He’s a handy footballer and a great person, exactly the type of individual you want around the club. This is bigger than just what you’re going to get onfield for where out lost is at and what King is attempting to achieve.

100% right! I can’t wait to meet Brody, he’ll be welcomed with open arms (quite literally 😁). He’s got a fan in me, that’s for sure. Just like you, I’m so glad he’s ours ❤️💙

My in-laws are all pies and bro in law can’t stand him

I say every time, I’d have him in a heart beat

He’s a solid citizen without the nonsense

Super chuffed

Mihocek has been a fantastic player relative to his salary at Collingwood and I think he will possibly be serviceable for us. But I am still unsure on our current list build and I am very worried the club is overrating exactly we’re we are at.

I can’t handle this. I’m not used to seeing a contemporary player in a Melbourne jumper take an overhead mark and hold it with a single grab.

Benny Brown revisited, a good citizen but in better shape.

Go Checkers.

First time I've enjoyed watching Collingwood highlights.

Strong, skilful and crafty. Great value acquisition.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
