Can we talk about Kolt?

I get that drafting is a gamble but this is not the 90s or even early 2010's. In this professional era I think there was some seriously bad judgement here. I dont see any strengths.

Not writing him off yet but he needs a big pre-season to get properly fit and confident within himself.

Don't understand the clubs insistence on playing him in the seniors.

I like him but the way he runs around in a game it’s like he is playing park footy and it’s very frustrating. He also needs to be cleaner with the ball.

These are things that can be fixed though, whether that happens or not is up to Kolt.

Don't understand what's going on when he was sold as a high energy player. Shows none of that on the field. Is it all above the shoulders?

Time on his side but so far not great.

His first few appearances showed intensity and excitement but recently he has been quite disappointing.

Harsh to call him a bust but needs to consolidate at Casey for several weeks before reselecting.

The kid had an injury that kept him out for 12 weeks. I will hold on passing judgement until he has a full preseason or two under his belt.

Difference with Nibbler though is that he use to consistently dominate at Casey racking up big numbers. Everyone could see that ANB had the talent, just needed the opportunity.

Even at VFL level Tholstrup has struggled this year and no way dominated to deserve a call up. I haven't seen anything at VFL levelto suggest he'll be a solid 200 game player at the elite level.

He'll need to not only have a attitude adjustment over the off season but also come back looking trimmed and fit.

Was nibs doing this in his 2nd year? Bit of a revisionist history IMO. He certainly stood out with his work rate, but his disposal used to be horrendous and he was incredibly fumbly.

We cannot expect al draftees to maintain the freshness all year until their younger bodies get prepared.

he same could be said about "the Duke" (who has found it harder this year).

Xavier Herbert has slowed down and is looking tired and needs management as does the Duke.

Langford will burst through next year. ( he has been pretty good this year......bigger body)

Roo is starting to condition himself for the role he can play.

Ferguson started to show a bit today insofar as getting more comfortable with the Game Flow.

Disco is a real work in progress and is improving as a Key Defender.

And we found a new recruit today that they have been hiding @ Casey ..........Tmac

One bloke looks really underdone is Lever.....cannot contest mark, tackle or shepherd...must be good speaker because he is alwaysa telling people what & who to do !

Needs an uninterrupted preseason and to mature mentally before we can classify him as a bust.

i think we'll perservere with having him as a half forward, but in an ideal world he'd go back to casey and work on his attack on the ball and the man

lacks intensity

He looks completely out of his depth. Has no weapons, pace or size. Fumbly and poor decision making. Runs to the wrong spots.

I'd play Bailey Laurie over him and that's saying something.

Spot on. He was also second in average speed in defence on the ground today.

He’ll be a completely different player with a preseason.

Exactly, he consistently lands in the top 3 for work rate in defence. If people want to see a stand out trait, it's that.

patience people

he's not setting the world alight, but he has time yet

let's see how he looks after another preseason before writing him off

What a load of optimistic drivel. He was what??

He has a great mentor there in jones to help him.

I'm not sure what to think. Yes he kicked a telling goal, but he fumbled & only had 7 disposals.

If he gets a full pre season behind him, no injuries then I'll judge him next season, but he'll have to do something or else his career could be over quickly.

One great goal doesn’t justify selection. Keep him at Casey.

mature and considered response that one.

Some good points here, particularly on the injury. Another pre-season will definitely help but his basic skills don't seem to be there, the fumbles were pretty poor. I'm not sure what his best position will be at this point as nothing really stands out. Perhaps more time with Melksham will help him learn forward craft and positioning. Then we just need someone to teach him how to catch the ball.

I was surprised to see him not get subbed ahead of X, but also understand that Lindsay must be battling hard with limited pre season playing wing.

To me Kolt is not a half forward, and he won’t succeed playing that role. We need to give him wing time like we have all of Langford, Lindsay and Windsor. It’ll expose him to a lot more of the ball and get him more involved.

I don’t know what role he plays long term, but right now he is having minimal impact on games and is not earning his spot in the team. He’s getting games because we want to play these high draft picks, but eventually you have to show something to keep your spot.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
