As I said during the week, something has to change with Tholstrup's role because this clearly isn't working. He needs a complete reset before next season.

a massive preseason and a role in the midfield

he's not a half forward

Missing 10 or 12 weeks through this preseason with stress fractures wasn't ideal. Hopefully next year he gets a full crack at it.

Season 2025 is fully over in terms of success, so we have to know what we have, and what we need. Kolt needs to be given a number of weeks in a row maybe in a different position. He was pick 13 for a reason and had a broken preseason.

He was very very poor today, at times not even showing the intensity that he usually brings, even if it is often misplaced.

Very ordinary today. And footage of body language did not look great after being subbed, and seemed to mouthing something about Harry. May be wrong, but of all names Harry is actually quite easily to lip read. He just seems totally lost in the big league. Hope he finds it quick.

He won't. He needs multiple pre-seasons if he's to make it.

Both him and Jeffo have been busts

Jeffo at least was taken in a shocking draft. He may well end up the 15th best player taken if he gets to 20 games.

As I said in the other thread, his run and chase was shocking today. He laid 1 tackle today. 1.

We could see he was a kid with a big ego when he came in. If we were going better from a leadership perspective, we'd probably be able to manage him better. Right now, we have a huge void. If this kid was mouthing off about Sharp when he came off, I hope he's pulled into a meeting on Monday morning with coach & captain.

A poor decision maker and a poor kick. Our 2023 draft haul is looking incredibly grim at the moment.

Kolts draft write up …

Blending with Windsor’s class is the grunt and power of Koltyn Tholstrup (pick 13). The West Australian impressed with his willingness to perform roles in Subiaco’s senior side this year, shaping as a character who will only boost the quality of a team’s culture.

He plays with great energy and flair going both ways, which should quickly endear him to fans. Even his exploits off the field are eye-catching. While he’ll likely start as a forward, Tholstrup certainly has scope to shift into the on-ball group in future.

I just thought we would see a more aggressive style of footy, a young man with real intensity and attack at the footy. Instead he looks hesitant. He fumbles. His kicking is so so. He was poor at Casey yet the Dees have kept the faith in him and have given him more game time.

I want to add, which sound magnanimous, but I do hope Kolt takes it the right way. He probably does read the forum I know I would at the same age and stage. I started the thread and feel a bit guilty that he would be feeling [censored] after reading it. But I suppose that is the purpose of a footy forum to talk all things MFC.

You can make your own minds up. Seemed to be a snooty demeanour with a Harry thrown in.

Hasn’t shown much which is disappointing but nether has anyone taken immediately after him that we might have been considering taking in his place, so hard to say if we stuffed up or just a weak draft. Must be tough seeing the players we took in next draft go past you but he isn’t exactly unique I’m sure, Jefferson, Laurie and Jed Adam’s to name a few must feel even more frustrated. I’d probably try getting him in a position to get more time on the ball as he isn’t a natural fwd but that would mean going back to the vfl

Maybe less time dancing and prancing around pre game in front of the MFC socials and more time focussing in actually contributing out on the field.

I have been defending this bloke this year but so far on the value we coughed up for him its been a major disappointment.

I'll give him the benefit of doubt because of the injury, but hes looking like a sub VFL.standard player. I was all for getting games into him, but that was with hope that he would start to show incline progression not the other way around.

It’s hard to judge Kolt, being his interrupted preseason and he looks like he needs to mature mentally. I dont think we are currently developing him in the best way either. He has not been brought into the side at any point on strong VFL form and then we wonder why he does not perform. I suggest he should be sent back to Casey and played in the midfield to develop his game. He still needs a few full preseasons to know where he stands.

And it’s a big if.

If we're having a go at players based on nothing footage like that then we may as well pack up shop. He's a 19 year old who's just been benched and his team is losing after fighting hard all day. I've seen far far worse from senior players, including Gawn, every week.

Kolt's not setting the world on fire, but let's not attack his character as a person over nothing.

Really poor behavior on this forum recently!

Yep he’s not up to VFL standard let alone AFL standard atm

Let’s hope a full preseason may help in 2026

That is exactly what I see, and also, have never seen anything to suggest he should've been drafted at all - let alone at pick 13.

I don’t buy the narrative that we traded up specifically for Kolt. I think we just tried to get as high up the board as possible and see what happens, we do it every year, the problem is there was no talent there, why couldn’t we identify that? Such a waste of picks by doing so. We did the same in 2020 as well, offloaded a future first in a terrible draft for another first round pick in Bailey Laurie. Strange tactic, get better at seeing if it’s worth it or not.

We were after max Holmes

Geelong came in at the time of the previous pick and pipped us

The pick swap that landed us our 2020 first rounders was done a month before the draft, there’s no way we would’ve known that that pick, in one of the most speculative drafts in history (COVID) was going to land us Max Holmes. It’s not as if we swapped picks on the night because he was still on the board, we would’ve had multiple options at those picks, not all in on Holmes.

I've been pretty disappointed with him this season, but the pre season injury does explain a lot.

I seem to remember him doing contested ball training with Viney, but he doesn't seem to be spending any time on the ball (in the VFL or AFL) - is this part of his recovery, or is it his development plan?

We had so many chances that we fumbled across half forward today, so I'm not going to pin it all on a kid, but he did seem to fumble a lot.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
