Blake Howes Re-Signs Until 2027

Good depth which has a good ceiling that can make him a regular 22 player.

Initially showed McVeeโ€™esque compusre which later disappeared after some inconsistency in performance. Hopefully more game time , learning of craft and fitness bodes well for him.

A good signing

I feel Blake still has a bit more development to go before he starts hitting his straps but you can see the talent there

Iโ€™m not convinced playing back is his best position but hopefully he can become that hybrid third tall/flanker type that can intercept but still take the game on with a bit of run and dash

Did Damian Barrett say itโ€™s ok? ๐Ÿ™„

Good signing. Club rates Howes highly. Has plenty of improvement in him

Now need to get Judd signed. He remains OOC.

Shown enough to warrant an extension

Should spend some time in the gym to add some bulk. Gets pushed out of the road too easily

Another good signing for MFC Blake has the talent, skills and the size to make it at AFL level and agree with BDA needs to build greater strength, the confidence will come with more game time.

Staying with the Dees is a โ€œNo-Brainer.โ€

Love this kid โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Rate him highly. Was stiff to get dropped earlier on but I felt like his performance on the weekend was solid.

Great for our future.

Can you please tell Judd to get a move on?!

A good re-signing. Iโ€™m not sure he is a backman. Would like to see him off a wing or forward.

Got huge scope.

they've clearly determined that he can play that small / forward combo roll down back, sort of like hibberd

personally i don't see howes having the impact in the air or via his boot that i would like to see from this sort of player

at vfl level he looks so composed and assured; yet to translate to afl level

I instinctively like him, think he can develop into a solid versatile defender. Unlikely to be a superstar but neither are a great many players who build 200-game careers and are part of important moments.

I think it does translate to AFL. Not every moment of every match but he does enough right to be very close to best 22.

I think Blake has some solid AFL qualities. Not exclusively in the backline, but also as a winger or potential HF. Iโ€™m not sure where he will finally settle, but very confident that his time as a regular is not too far away. Good signing imo.

He's still quite raw but he's a solid athlete, a good size and most importantly a willing competitor. His first few games were really impressive before his form tapered off but there's definitely something there.

Apparently there were a few teams interested in him, so I'm glad we were able to lock him in for a few more seasons. The last thing we need is to see another fringe player thrive in different colours before we've really gotten a chance to see what they can do.

Is this called for?

A handy fringe player. His biggest issue is lack of confidence, still scared to move the footy on quickly.

One must recall that Picket Fence is a professional revolutionary dedicated to the global overthrow of Goodwinist regimes, and all intermediate happiness is merely a barrier to the one true happiness of a Goodwinless nirvana.

When I decipher I'll give you an answer

Fence posts are leaflets dropped from the sky by the Picketistani Liberation Front, demanding the immediate dismantling of all structures involving Goody and the words โ€œsystem" and "learnings".

Read twice. Burn after laughter.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sundayโ€™s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourneโ€™s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, weโ€™ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binmanโ€™s Stats Files. Not because it isnโ€™t important; quite the opposite. Itโ€™s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourneโ€™s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last yearโ€™s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although itโ€™s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sundayโ€™s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to foolโ€™s gold.
