unsure if this has been posted, but, is there somewhere us Deees get together to watch interstate games (once it was the Bentleigh Club - gee - I'm going back!).

Go Dees

and I can't stand Saints!

Really concerning about Viney. A month off from a delayed concussion and can’t even get through training. Let’s hope this isn’t going to be a long term or career ending.

Yep. I'm worried for Jack's health more than I'm worried for the team missing his presence...

I suspect that in the scheme of things delayed concussion is worse than match day concussion.

It's now more than concerning given his age and game style.

Culley?

Unless we decide to go in with an extra tall, I imagine either Laurie or Henderson will get the call up for Sunday.

100% and glad the club is taking no risks.

Jack is about to become a father for the third time. He has a whole life ahead of him. We have seen the devastating impact of concussion on individuals years down the track. His health and wellbeing is the most important thing.

Surely Laurie is the in, sub. Sharp into the 22.

Hope they are just being extra cautious with Viney. Don’t want any prolonged post concussion syndrome 🤞🏼

Surely it’s time to see if Laurie is up to AFL level & give him a full game

Happy with the club being cautious with Jack hoping to see him soon

Same here. Viney had not gone through full contact training so we have to see how he pulls up from that first. It's not ticked off yet.

Sadly appears we were right, Viney out

"Forward Jacob van Rooyen will join the extended squad, with the final team to be confirmed at 5pm (AEST) on Friday."

Hope he stays at Casey, another week to build his skills/confidence. Would be nothing worse than to travel to Alice and not play.

Not sure how this plays out though in terms of like-for-like replacement. Perhaps Adams in to free Turner forward? Would have thought we'd bring in Henderson for Spargo with Laurie as emergency not JVR. But what would I know ...

If it was me I'd go Sharp in for Spargo and Laurie sub.

Leave the rest of the structure the same.

Interesting that the team list on the AFL site just swapped JVR in for Viney into the 18. I suspect at 5 pm we will find that JVR is an emergency, because he is in Sydney ready to play for Casey tomorrow.

Vines is flying to Alice and will train (a little like Clayton did a couple of years ago!) and Henderson will come into the 23. Either Hendo or Sharp I expect to be sub. Don't expect Adams to play. Final question is which plane Bailey Laurie is on....?

Does Viney have a history of concussion issues?

If not, we may be jumping the gun with worrying about his career. The club are rightfully being extremely conservative with our VC

He has a history of throwing himself recklessly into packs. That has to catch up with you at some point.

I love the guy, but how's that four year contract looking at the moment?

So no concussion history that you know of? Good to hear!

Contract is looking great, he has been in good form and is a key member of the squad

Laurie has to come in. He has to show something and needs to take his chance. I’d assume he would be sub however actually prefer to see him start.

yeah i don't agree

he's an inside midfielder

in terms of replacing spargo, i think henderson suits the role player specificity of like: like

I don’t recall Viney sitting out games with concussion or being flattened during games and showing concussed signs. I’m sure he’s had a few though. It’s clearly a concern if he’s still not playing as the incident wasn’t the worst which we’ve seen. Fingers crossed it’s all ok in the coming weeks.

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.
