Harris Andrews must have nightmares about Jake Melksham. Legitimately one of the best key defenders in the competition and he gets consistently cooked by a bloke in his 30s who he has 16cm on. You have to give it to Melksham, he is an unbelievable competitor and even towards the end of his career the club can count of him in a pinch. Outside of Jonesy the unluckiest not to have been apart of the premiership side in '21, granted he wasn't in great form at the time but that just makes some of the match-winning performances he's had since that much more special.

Whilst a number of our old heads cost us early with their fumbling, in contrast our young brigade are so cool in the moment, clean in their ball handling and precise with their disposal. An absolute joy to watch. Melky take a bow. Fantastic anticipation from AJ to boot that crucial goal.

Very envious of the supporters that made the trip up there. Enjoy your night.

Lever back means Disco up forward I reckon which prob means AJ is out.

Disco is a pretty reliable set shot from varying angles.

Spargo was an extremely important player for us 2021..deserves a chance after nearly 18.months out..

Sure, 2021 was 4 years ago. And I’m not saying he should be delisted, but he should be dropped to find form.

That last quarter puts to bed the idea that we aren't fit enough and can't run out games.

So much of all this is between the ears.

Why?

Melk and Hibberd both came over together. Both seriously good footballers. Different skills, but professional and a cut above the average. They've contributed a lot to our club. We need Langford/Lindsay/Windsor to grow into that type of player. And haven't they started well!

Bowser for AA this year!

He has been great, but lets not get carried away. He would just be in the top 10 half backs of the league at the moment.

If he could get more forward half possessions, goals, inside 50s and score involvements then, he'd be in consideration for sure.

It IS a grand old flag! So proud … thought it possible the way we hung in there, but that final quarter was epic! Could have been 10.2 rather than 4.8 … but I am NOT complaining!

Its a bit like Jake Lever when he first got to Melbourne. If you dont put a match-up on Lever, he will run riot. He cannot defend 1-1 very well but is intercept master. Andrews a much better 1-1 defender but his strength is his intercept and rebound game. you take that away from him and well, you get what you get today.

20 touches at 85% efficiency

thought he was his usual reliable self or did he cop a knock?

After the Bombers getting smashed last night, I hope they enjoyed the Milkshske show

😂😂

Disco seems to be one of our better kicks in general.

I was critical of Oliver at the start of Q2 in the game day thread. But he delivered a fantastic second quarter and was a big contributor in the win. Well done, Clarry.

Yep, I feel regretful for bagging him out early in the thread too.

He played a really solid game. I love seeing him out there as part of our team

Um would tend to agree but Petty NOT a forward

Fritta looked like he was playing for his career in that last Quarter

Great to see

God call SWYL

He needed to be dropped because he's lacked a fair bit of intent.

I thought that mark he took on the wing was a ripper.

Hopefully the old Fritta with more passion is back for good.

wow wow wow what a win go dees

Sometimes you just play these players to get form

Loved Melk's game, he is like a fine wine, just gets better with age.

Also really impressed with Sparrow and Chin. Both solid and damaging contributors.

Clarrie is building I reckon. His handballing in the last three weeks is like the Clarrie of old.

I really like Sharp and the enthusiasm he brings, but he has the composure of a rabbit on acid.

Goody coached very well today.

Go Dee's!

So, was the Melksham over the shoulder kick that went to Langdon an intentional pass, or a shanked shot at goal? I reckon it happened as intended.

Melk 100% meant it.

It was brilliant- he knew he just had to get into space and was able to execute.

Bybthe by, the dart he kicked on his left to Sparrow in the corridor was a thing of beauty.

I thought Melksham gave Andrews a bath. Andrew showed him no respect playing so aggressively in front.

That contest was a big factor in the result.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.
