Playing a GREAT GAME! Take of the blinkers!

His effort at that particular moment was lazy, Picket. Go back to drooling over Jeffo in the VFL

Can’t complain too much with the effort so far.

But this is the gameday thread so I need to let all the negativity out. The quicker we can replace Sharp and Spargo with proper AFL players the better. We are wasting Windsor down back who by the way has suddenly become a huge ball butcher. Get him playing in the right spot would be a start. May has been OK but what the hell was that effort on Gardiner?

I honestly like AJ. I’m sure his stats suck but he gives us something.

Just quietly Clarry is …. back?

Bar some execution issues this is as good as we’ve looked all year. Very watchable.

Whenever we get within 3 goals they slip into gear and kick a couple

will be the story of the game unfortunately unless we take all our chances

You see some real sad sacks on this thread, don't you?!

What I am seeing is a top-class game where we are playing exceptionally well but last years premiers (probably this year too) are playing better. Those of you who say we don't change our game: look at this game.

The problems: at times our kicking is terrible, and sorry, Choco, but that has to be down to you. And Windsor STILL isn't a defender, and you can see why Brisbane let Sharp go - he tries, but doesn't succeed.

But Clarry is back in form, Max is playing better than he ever has, Bowey is fantastic, and many other huge positives.

Both him and Oliver look like they need another pre season but even then might just be the new norm for them

Oliver's a mile ahead of Tracc today and easily our best mid

Think I just had them on another level with Bont and Danger, they just look like most other mids these days

I agree and against a very good side. The problem is the execution issues are the same week in week out.

Oliver with 17 and 5 clearances. Neale with 15 and 4. Not bad.

Oliver is going ok today, he clearly is still a long way from being able to gut run all day like in the past. His hand still looks like it’s effecting his handling of the ball to. But we have far bigger problems than Oliver today but he seems like a pretty easy target.

Time to be proactive and try to win the match:

Turner forward and Petty back.

Fritsch on for Spargo

Love it coach Joeboy. Positive. Go for the win. But Goody loves the lil Spargo so that would be a brave call !!!

We could really do with a (in form) Fritch type in this forward line. Will be VERY interesting to see how he responds when he is subbed in.

If only we knew where to get one...

Puzzling really.

Need to step up another gear in 3rd .

Go us !!

Why is Fritter the sub???? He'd be better dropped to vfl to find some form than be used for 20 mins as an out of form sub

Spargo…..

My dream of playing AFL is still alive

Please make this the last time we see both Sharp and Spargo in the same team.

Both need to go.

Commentators picking on Oliver. Yet the turnovers are the issue. Been 5 or 6 cruel turnovers that have cost us and led to Lions goals.

I'd bite through bullet now and bring him in for Spargo.

From live at the ground it's a good game. However for half-time- worst Auskickers ever!!!!

have you nominated for the mid season draft yet?

It’s honestly ridiculous. Windsor scrubbed a simple kick and apparently it was Clarry’s fault for ‘stopping’? Just an easy target for the media at the moment. Haven’t heard it since Jack Watts was out there.

Turner ,, a sleeper(but as part of defence like McVee), Knows where the ball is.

Clarrie (although terrific effort)is not exactly a "deliverer" like Neal/Zerko

Don't think for one moment that Petracca is deliberately being "swamped"

Good game so far, but they are delivering the ball better than us !!

My only skill is ducking my head. I’m 4ft 8. Feel like we already have my type

Yes from that POV they're a fair bit off their 2021 - 2023 best.

Clarry's alot closer than Tracc though. Even though he's still off his best from back then, his Player Rating has him up 28% on his horror 2024 and our 2nd highest rated player behind Max so far till last week. Even with the shocking rating when he tagged.

Until last week, Tracc's Player Rating is down roughly 16% on his excellent 2024 result (up till the injury).

Windsors pre season or lack thereof is behind his inconsistency but agree HB is not for him. I’m not really sure where he is best suited.

From memory he always had question marks on his kicking skills.

Spargo. First half.

Metres gained MINUS 3.

1 tackle.

Poor. Very poor

Want to see a massive lift in him

Wish we had an Elliott, Hill, Greene, Papley etc as a small forward to kick goals.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
