We will all have to wait a week for Casey's next official game due to the fact that the team has another bye this weekend.

In the meantime, a scratch match has been arranged against Sandringham for those interested. If anyone's going, Please keep us apprised.

Otherwise, the next game is at the Mission Whitten Oval on 10 May 2025.

Thanks K.C what time is the game vs Sandy tommorrow?

Assume scratch match is a short 4 x15 minute quarters. No limit on interchange. Has to be played between two like minded clubs being ripped by the AFL at every opportunity.

The disrespect that the AFL pays to the VFL is as incredible as it is sad.

Agree with your general criticism of the VFL but my guess is that AFL clubs have requested a bye when they travel to WA.

We have four travelling emergencies together with staff that would have supplemented the VFL side.

Our injury list is not too bad and we could probably have fielded a reasonable team but as the travelling emergencies are your key fringe players have we really lost much?

Of course if it was a bona fide competition my thoughts would be very different.

I rang the club this morning and they didn’t know anything about it,but would enquire and get back to me.Recently got an email saying it’s closed to the public.

The scratch match at Casey tomorrow is a closed event, ie. it’s to be played behind locked gates.

In this day and age (liability etc) it costs money to open the gates, security, clean the toilets etc.

A pity it's not at Gosch's or another permanently open venue.

Got down there at 11.00 today and there were a handful of spectators in the ground and the gates were ajar. Missed all but the last minutes of the scratch match. The players then had running and some ball work drills. The players there that I picked up were Billings, Adams, Verrall, Campbell, Fullarton, Mentha, Brown, Johnson, Woey, Kentfield, Culley and a few others, Apparently ( according to a trainer) Jeffo copped a knock in the scratch match and was nowhere in sight

Thanks Pickett. Sounds like all emergencies travelled to Perth then?

Hope jeffo hasn't suffered a concussion.

So Laurie, Howes and AJ are the emergencies this week
Seems at lest one (if not two) of them will have very limited game time seeing this kicks off at 11:05am in Footscray and we're on at 1:20 at the G

Nice of the VFL to schedule a game for Casey this week

It appears that Jack Viney might not be the only mystery injury of the week given that Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin are named as an out and playing in the AFL when they weren’t named as emergencies.

Agree - I thought we left the mysteries behind. Woey and Billings were fit and healthy last time we knew !!

Is Jack a mystery injury? I’m sure it was mentioned on one of the Foxtel Footy shows the other night (last night maybe?) that he was omitted with a concussion.

The same article also mentions that AMW, Sestan and Verrall are being monitored by other clubs as they are all out of contract.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
