Defence stood tall and pressure forwards played a massive role. That being said, nobody had more influence on the result than Gawn.

Just a champion

But needs to learn his to kick with a permanent hook

Daylight

5 Rivers for 3 3/4 qtr for his run and carry

4 Sparrow lifted again with his tackling and determination

3 Langdon plays with heart and runs all heart

2 Viney tackling machine (just needs to kick a goal when he has a chance … missed 3 chances )

1 Chandler plays with heart and smart footy

Don’t get sucked into stats - Bowey Salem lazy disposals and little chip kicks time to get real and use the footy with purpose

And strugglers were

-3 Fullarton -2 Fritsch -1 Spargo

The glory that is Demonland. Two posts in a row. One gives Spargo a minus 1 while the other a vote of +1.

My votes:

  1. Gawn 5. Bowey 4. Salem 3. Petracca 2. Sparrow 1. Rivers

Viney's tackling was superb, but he seems to have forgotten the gameplan once he has the ball. Those long dump kicks don't belong any more. (What's worse, is that perhaps he was trying precision passing and wasn't capable of doing it.)

6 Max Gawn

5 Tom Sparrow

4 Jake Bowey

3 Christian Petracca

2 Christian Salem

1 Kade Chandler

Honourable mentions;

Ed Langdon

Xavier Lindsay

Steven May

Clayton Oliver

Trent Rivers

Jack Viney

  1. Gawn. I will be able to tell my grandkids I saw this legend play live.

  1. Bowey. Maybe 1/3 of his disposals were those easy ones across half back, but apart from those, this bloke is now our chief distributer. He looks for the 45 degree angled kick, he changes lines and angles, and on the run is a reliable kick finding targets (except for his first kick this game which was a shocking howler).

  1. Petracca. He's not back to his peak, but he is back.

  1. Langdon. The everywhere man. Gets to the next contest, then the next...

  1. Salem. Reads the play so well and distributes well. However, I feel his disposal doesn't often hurt the opposition.

  1. Sparrow. Good to get one of our forwards into the votes. His grunt work and foot skills were great tonight.

Couldn't get Oliver, Chandler and Rivers in.

@La Dee-vina Comedia I am puzzled why anyone would give Charlie Spargo a vote. Amazed. I would not even have Spargo in my top 18 contributors last night to be honest. Sharp contributed as much and perhaps even more in his 1/4 versus Spargo’s full 100 minutes.

Spargo had 3 clear missed tackles where he was pushed aside. Not good enough. Metres gained 96!! 7 possessions. 2 clangers. No pace. No crumbing. No scoreboard impact. He is somehow getting a game!! Chandler is our best small forward by a mile.

We need to add another crumbing pacy goalkicking small forward in this years recruiting.

6 - Max

5 - Bowey

4 - Salem

3 - Rivers

2 - Tracc

1 - Sparrow

Apologies to JV (15 tackles), Clayton, Ed, TMac, May and the musketeers.

You should look at the interplay where there is vision of spargo and Goodwin

  1. Gawn

  2. Bowey

  3. Viney

  4. Petracca

  5. Salem

  6. Sparrow

Rivers, TMac and Lingers all unlucky.

Thought Sparrow showed much improvement.

Still no dominant forward

On the 10th anniversary of the Dismissal, Gough was asked his opinion of Malcolm Fraser. His response, "Malcolm Fraser, much improved".

I think it was part of the final quarter , when Max had come off. He and max were chatting and either before or after Spargo and Goody hugged each other As if to say that went well or worked out. Willing to be over ruled just what I remember not positive when. but after half time

Gawn

Bowser

Viney

Rivers

Sparrow

Tmac

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
