Hawks and Mitchell in particular seem so ahead of the curve on everything. Saw where the game was going so built a gameplan to exploit it. Taking their recruitment methods to a whole new level. Meanwhile we're four years behind with our gameplan and are desperately struggling to keep our own players happy.

Just said, he would only go to a premiership favorites...Hawthorn or Brisbane.

Hawks i can understand - no issue when we were in a similar position, we were able to attract BBB, Hibberd, May and Lever, which were all instrumental in our tilt at the flag. So far they are mimicking our moves to a tee.

But Brisbane just lost Daniher to retirement, were gifted a bunch of Top 3 draft picks and academy players in the past couple of years and now can essentially plug their only list hole in 1 season.

I hate harping on about inequity but we have such a retched run with our list it just aint funny. Some in control, some out of control.

I find it odd that Brisbane don't cop the same sort of scrutiny as the cats with their salary cap.

Zero chance we land him now

I'd be going all in on Jackosn with Kozzy the carrot

Media doing their usual thing of getting all the good players on the move to 2 or 3 clubs, always those near the top of the ladder.

Isn't Allen's knee more buggered than Ben Brown's was?

Yep, I wouldn’t be shocked if he plays more than 40-50 games for whoever he goes to. His knees are absolutely cooked.

The other part of this story is this will more than likely net them a 1st round compo pick which could see them holding 2 x top 5 picks.

Might be a more attractive trading partner for Kozzie if freo get into gear and push into the 8. Presuming Jackson or any of their young stars are off the table.

Still curious if theyd consider M.Reid and a nice Pick for Kozzie.

It certainly makes me spew

Even worse is we seem to sit by and just cop it

Mac Andrew then the rule change back?

Week in week out treatment of max

Maynard off Scott free along with pickett’s treatment vs afl faves like Dangerfield

The wretched treatment is retch inducing!

🤮

What? Do you actually think Allen is going to move his family to the other side of the country because the media reported on the meeting Sam Mitchell had with him?

The media engage with the agents, Allen is coming out of contract, has bad knees like Viney has a body with wear and tear beyond his age. Build a story meet Mitchell in a very public place and get a contract in terms of years that are generous that’s what’s at play here.

However after being burnt by Nic Nat and Yeo in recent times we saw it with Barrass I think in full rebuild mode the Eagles will happily take the first round compensation to go with the Harley Picks and load up at the draft over the next 2 years

With Hawks on the hunt for Allen is there any chance Mitch Lewis is gettable?

My first thought as well 🤔

Red herring, this bloke ain't worth it.

Cant stay fit, baaaad knees, and a bad look meeting with opposition coaches early in the season.

Unfortunately he's probably the only decent KPF on the market.

Media just report on what they are told. A juicy meeting between a teams captain and a rival coach is great fodder for them. Probably the Hawks themselves letting this bit of info out.

I agree, Eagles will be wanting to keep Allen in the same way North wanted to keep Mckay and we wanted to keep Frawley.

Well, no, but they do act as unofficial recruiters for certain clubs. Not us, as it showed with Houston last year.

Wait until the AFL allow the Pies to trade more first round picks despite that putting them in breach of the trading rules.

How is this for some conspiracy theory.

  1. Mitchell meets with Oscar with no intent to recruit him.

  2. Leak the meeting to the media

  3. Oscar steps down from captaincy and creates a real icy environment for all players

  4. Harley already unsettled, final nail in the coffin

  5. Harley has already been ptiched by the Hawks

  6. Harley seeks trade at end of year.

Mitchell the ultimate strategist wins again.

This is hilarious. We were at the top of the ladder not so long ago and only managed to attract discards like Dunstan, Grundy, Hunter, Billings, Schache, Fullarton, etc.

And yet when the Hawks were down the bottom, they were able to attract players who are in their best 22 like Amon, Chol, Impey, Meek, D'Ambrosia, Ginnivan, Scrimshaw.

Our list managment since winning the flag has been embarrassing. But let's blame it on the media.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
