Don't understand everyones rush to trade out proven players for draft picks, especially in a weak draft, yes they aren't what they once were, however they can still help build our future, just look at how Langford looks up to Tracc.

If any of these guys want out we should be going for maximum value or holding them to contract as there's no guarantee what we bring in will be half the player we currently have. Just my take

Agree on Trac, Oliver can go

With a new coach coming in i think we will retain Trac and potentially clarry as well. See if the new main can get a tune out of these 2.

What are Clarry’s defensive stats outside the contest? Stats, and I’ll keep saying it, are, or can be misleading.

In the contest, he will tackle, pressure and scrummage. On the outside, he is slow. The game is all about skill, fast ball movement and pressure acts. Contested ball is no longer the yard stick to our game

Unparalleled intercept possessions for an inside mid. Second half of this year he’s been getting this back. Km covered per game he was consistently in our top 5 and well above our other true mids. Stats can be misleading, but not nearly as often as opinions without facts to back them up.

I think it’s the opposite. I think Goody was the one mainly responsible in keeping these two around. I suspect both will request a trade now.

We just have to get on with this list turnover. Rip off the band aid. we will suffer - bottom fours for the next few - but once our youth reach 75- 100 games we will be relevant once again.

I think Clarry, rightly or wrongly, might be perceived as a big part of the cultural issue. I think with Simon gone he will go too.

Our form took a solid decline from Mid ‘23, right when Clayton’s off field stuff started to become public knowledge. If I was walking into a new job and had the choice to not have to deal with the dead wood I’d chop it, if even just for the optics and psychological benefits.

It’s also worth noting that Petracca was openly critical of a lot of parts of our club last year, but was at pains to point out that it wasn’t Goodwin. His relationship with the club will shift again because of this. Perhaps the club already knows a lot more than we do, and that also weighed into the Goodwin decision.

Some of the recent decision making might have been brought upon because we are going to have to attract senior players over the offseason. We will see.

I truly believe Oliver has to go for us to have any change happening in our midfield. You can’t play Oliver And Viney anywhere else.

You can argue Viney can play forward but not 70% of a game.

I still believe Trac should be our first choice midfielder.

Trac Viney Kozzy

Trac Kozzy Langford

Trac Langford Windsor

Trac Viney rivers

Trac Kozzy Rivers

Can add Lindsey in there eventually

With Viney and Trac resting forward when need be.

If Viney is struggling next year then we get to play those options even more

I think Oliver will now depart however not sure on Petracca. He wanted change and I wonder if this change was part of his ideals.

IMO a new coach will want to see what he can do with what he has.

I would be surprised to see key senior player being traded as sacking a coach already messes with team moral.

Trading out a loved team mate would mess that chemistry/moral even more.

Last week I'd have said both would probably stay.

It's anyone's guess now. I think Goody was likely a very important influence and possibly the main reason he has stayed, he may think about that fresh start again or not. I don't know.

Trac would be up in the air too, it would be silly to predict what he is thinking. Depending on who we get he may find the fresh start he needs right here.

Plenty of water to go under the bridge.

Using unrelated data is also misleading. My point/question was about Clarry’s ability to impact defensively outside of the contest with his pace and his ability to adjust to current game styles..

The safest bet for a new coach, is to back themselves to get the best out of Trac and Clarry again, and thereby make us a better team instantly.

The less safe option is to trade one or both for less than they are worth, and hope it pays off culturally/ on field.

You can always trade quality players for unders, but getting quality players is much harder both in trading and drafting.

As you heard Goodwin say, he won’t miss driving down to Casey, players hate playing for the club because you have to drive for 90 minutes to get to the training ground. We won’t get anymore decent players until we have a proper base in Melbourne city, or within 10km of CBD.

I’ve supported this club all my long life and we’ve never had a real base, players hate it, coaches hate it and supporters hate it. Where the hell Gary Pert is who knows, he’s supposed to be getting Caulfield as a base, haven’t heard anything for 12 months, l mean WTF?

I just said the same thing in the Goodwin thread

Casey is an Albatross 👍

I hate to be the bearer of bad/good news, but Pert is no longer on the project.

Goodwin’s comments regarding Casey, as a now free unaligned person in the footy industry, just highlights how far behind the ball we are. And just how much of a failure the Roffey/Pert tenures were.

Supposed facilities being their strengths, yet failed again, like many boards before them.

We need a [censored] home

We need to abandon Casey from this pre-season. Just use what we have at Gosch's/AAMI.

The timing of Simon’s departure is good from a trade perspective. Allows us to be noncommittal on most players and see what offers come our way.

It has been said. We have all heard the platitudes but it was never going to work.

I didn't mind driving there as the traffic got progressively lighter as you got nearer.

The other way was hell and I imagine it would be even worse after a hard session on the track

Something tells me there is more to this than we know. I suspect Gawn will step down as captain and Trac will be offered the captaincy. This can be a disaster in the making. The next few years are going to be very bumpy.

I'm in this park too. I suspect there may be quite a few departures now. A new coach won't have sentimentality and attachment.

We get out from under their overly long and expensive contract 😁 Still paying 2 X $200K = $400k is just the same as a player doing their ACL in Round 1.

I’m really interested to see what Trac does here, he desperately wanted change, it’s now come but possibly not in the cosy way he imagined.

He’s now in a real bind, if he walks he’s basically blown up the club for nothing and if he stays, he’s likely playing out his career in the lower half of the ladder.

I’m surprised there is a lack of concern about Kozzy in these parts, given he signed a long term contract allegedly in part because of his relationship with goody. If nothing else, we have worked hard to make this a family for him, so destabilisation would surely only exacerbate his homesickness.

Of course I know we have him under contract, but wait for the media frenzy.

We may get a big haul back for him if he was to force his way out.. but I would vomit in my mouth every weekend to see him playing in oppo colours.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
