Gerard made an interesting observation on 360 in that multiple outlets have all run with this storey suggesting someone from Oliver’s camp is leaking this information deliberately.

I don’t want to believe it but it is a logical supposition. You’d expect that the more outlets reporting this tells you there is something there and I’d doubt that McClure or Morris would be seen as credible sources.

I dunno what to believe.

So it will be a smaller % of our cap as time goes by.

No it won’t it will stay the same. That’s what we are saying.

whoever his manager is did a bang up job by his client - a player under contract that the club knew had...challenges, shall we say...that nevertheless managed to get a massive extension on huge coin tied to the rise in the overall cap

He was arguably the best player in the competition at the time.

certainly in the top 10

At the end of 2022 he was seven seasons into a career of extraordinary achievement and, of particular interest, extraordinary consistency and durability.

If that had been the symmetrical halfway point of his career, he would have finished as the all-time leader of every known inside midfield stat.

He also had never missed a game after debut.

I also think that this can be a flat spot (if you call 28 disposals a game flat) that he finds his way out of. I really feel all this media is about playing with his perceived worth, when everyone knows he's an AC Cobra with minor panel damage. I like how Brad Green is pressing on this.

No "arguably" about it. When he signed he has won the AFLCA award twice in a row.

Yes you are correct, I should have said there will be more money in the cap as it increases and not mentioned percentage.

I did fail maths in high school.

Other than all the games he played in the vfl in his first year, when he was in / out of the senior side

No doubt he was an absolute marvel

Never the less, the stories since have made it clear that he had “issues” that required a lot of management

Did we offer a mega deal to a player who deserved it? Absolutely!

Has he failed to live up to his side of the bargain of maintaining the quality of player that he was? Unfortunately…

I wouldn't be blown away if it was Geelong instigating this [censored].

So, when any AFL player takes time away for mental health, the Media always respect the players privacy.

Yet , when Clayton takes a break, McClure and Morris can't help but fall over themselves to "break" news stories about him. Why do they not respect Clayton's privacy? It's incredibly disrespectful.

And then can't handle the blow back when Greeny gives em' a serve. Poor things

I’d accept this as a possibility if it was just Jay Clark and McClure. But there are multiple outlets / platforms running with this which is why I’m not so sure. You’d expect at least some of these to validate the source.

I get that journalism is no longer the shining beacon of integrity as well so…

im convinced outlets run stories based on other outlets running stories

100% they do. News.com ran with the May/Prestia story and their only source was Tom Morris tweets...

Been like that for years - generating content for each other to keep the story going. Unless it relates to Geelong, Collingwood or Hawthorn.

There is also the possibility that he is unhappy with the game time he is getting & this is his reaction to less time on the field.

You can’t rule it out no matter what people on here say. It is always a possibility with Clarry or for any other player for that matter. I mean who expected Trac to behave the way he did last year or May / Melksham.

Egos make young people do silly unpredictable things.

The only reason I don't believe that is that Garry Lyon came out and rubbished it and he doesn't usually do that unless he is very sure.

I believe he also has close connections to the Oliver family.

Yes I saw that, however he was then caught off guard with what Gerard had to say wrt to multiple outlets releasing multiple stories about Clarry on the same day indicating that it is unlikely a to be co incidence and that it - on the balance of probabilities- indicates a planned leak from Oliver’s camp.

Garrys view was also relating more to the point around Clarrys frustration with TOG being a motivation for the MH break.

I get what Gerard was saying, but as mentioned in other posts there are news outlets who actually write an article and site other articles about the same thing....

I hope May and Prestia take legal action.

Wasn’t it Vic Police that released a statement about charges which they subsequently walked back with a re-released statement?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
