Without Windsor and McVee we don’t currently have the drive and precision off half back making our new game plan even harder to implement. I’m looking forward to having those guys and Lindsay in the one team and in form. I reckon we’ll see some big strides forward. Yes our form is woeful but don’t underestimate the impact the loss of these 2 have had on performance.

We will have Windsor this week - maybe Lindsay next week, and McVee the week after.....light and tunnels.....

His dinky sideways kicks slows down our attack and leads to a flooded forward line

By the way he's not alone

At this stage, perhaps you're right, but let's see how he goes with more pace around him that spreads the field and gives him options.

I don't expect us to win tomorrow night, but I do expect Kozzy's inclusion to have a transformative impact on our ball movement and defence from stoppage.

If we can get our ball movement going and aggressive forward handball ala Round 1, I think we could be a chance.

Handpassing forward to advantage as part of the new game plan is also an option for Salem

The whole team needs to get on the move

As in not confident of winning by at least 100pts? They are playing at home and have a damn good side, what's not to be confident about. On the other hand I would love it if we beat them, cant stand those smug bastards.

Given Goody has called out the players publicly this is now a huge game.

We'll know on Friday night whether he has lost the payers or not.

Surely there will be a response.

has he? I havent heard anything out of the ordinary, apart from some out of form players might need to find form at Casey over the next few weeks. hardly earth shattering demands.

I expect Max to have a big one tomorrow night. He's not playing on any giants this week (Xerri, Wits etc...) which are starting to cause him issues.

His 2 opponents are not rucks by trade, and it's up to the mids and Max to have good synergy with his expected hit-out dominance.

Didn't he do that last week?

Melk does take a few games to get going but provided he's well over the injury and managed well on the track mid-week, he has immense upside for us.

As you said, we are lacking marking forwards. Melk is a key marking forward with vice like hands and lead up experience, craft and skills.

He is exactly the player you want in the team given our lack of dangerous targets of late.

Some say it's between him and Fritta. I'm not an expert so not sure if this is the way or not.

If it is then on recent form and trust (ie; selecting a player as i know what i'm going to get) im choosing Melk at this point.

I'd be sending a long overdue message to Fritta as well that you aren't exempt from earning your spot. You need to perform consistently with only the odd off week. Not the other way round.

Leaving Fritta in can only be sending a very poor message to the rest of the playing group imo given his fall away from acceptable AFL performance levels.

You simply cannot have an under performing player in a role sense, refusing to chase or give max effort / 2nd efforts when it's his turn to go.

No doubt not alone but he is a senior player and one that's consistently under performing in his role of late.

If Simon wants to keep awarding mediocrity and poor examples, especially from senior players, then we are probably going to see more of same shizen performances going forward. This is a brutal sport that will eat up anyone who goes in to matches with the wrong mind set or thinking they can just swan their way through unscathed.

It will eventually come back to bite the player/s, the Coaches and the club.

You can bury your head in the sand and pretend it will somehow miraculously resolve itself if you keep doing more of the same. Or you can address it and look for solutions and alternative ways / means and methods.

The game is ever changing and unforgiving. You have to adapt and be ruthless when required and needed.

I think Fritta will benefit as Melk finds form

Don’t understand why anyone thinks they will respond differently after this weeks review than they did after the north loss, the only reason there is any hope of improvement is based on personal coming in, but the team as a whole is so far off in effort atm I’m not sure that it really helps. We may be 0-3 like Carlton but they are a team only a few changes away from turning it round, us on the other hand seem totally lost at sea.

Don't worry we appear to be in good hands.

Dermie just got stuck into our players on SEN. Did not hold back

If we get smashed it will be Custers cluster.

I think there is some light at the end of the tunnel. We have 10 players listed on the AFL site melbourne injured list which doesn't include Windsor and Kossie who should be back this week. Lever and Spargo are listed as injured but there is a probability they will be available. 5 of the other eight will be returning within 2 weeks and of those 5, 3 are considered in our best 23. Tholstrup, McVee and Lindsay. That's a 3rd of the side back in 2 weeks. It's not only getting the better 7 back it also means you take 7 off the bottom of talent (a 14 person turnaround).

If Kozzie doesn't make a lick of difference tomorrow night, then we really are up the creek.

I think he's our most important player on the list given the attributes he has to offer. One only needs to re-watch the Port game late last year which demonstrated how one player alone (4 of 7 goals/ 21 touches as a mid-forward) could keep his side in the game.

Grass is greener.

Put Kozzy, Windsor, Lindsay and McVee into our team, and who knows...

Not sure about Carlton, reckon they are in as much trouble as us.

Aside from MacKay, their other stars are out there

One thing I truly hate is “honourable “ losses. The ones where you are watching the game and the 3-4 goal margin remains from the Cats initial burst. You sit there and watch as we draw to within 12 points with 10 minutes to go only to see the Cats kick an easy out the back goal. These games are truly grating.

Yep.

A loss is a loss

0 Points gained…

I would 100% rather be us than Carlton at the moment.

Their top 5-6 players have been solid and the rest of their list is shocking. Our top 5-6 players have been way out of form but the younger guys on our list can clearly play.

It’s ugly for us at the moment but we still have a promising future…they certainly don’t. And they don’t have a first round pick this year either.

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
