Maybe itโ€™s about time we held a review into club operations.

Yes the last review that informed us all about the state of play and the proposed strategy to address the issues so far we have an interim ceo an interim president and an on field basket case

Worked a treat

I feel like this is just semantics. He's a short term president who has taken on the job until Smith is ready in a years time. It's the definition of interim.

If Smith has brains and I think he does he will become unavailable

Maybe not by design, certainly by events.

Smith is indeed smart . Really, who in their right mind would step up/in until the Tower of Babel has fallen and the dust settled

He also stated that he has a young family and his own business but he will come back to the role in a few years when his family & business commitments are less demanding . He is fully invested ..

A few years is an eternity in football. A bit presumptuous to think the job will be automatically his by then.

HL's RS nomination was the sport item on RN's 6 o'clock news.

So they're not all against us ๐Ÿ˜„

Well the wave of attacks was in full launch today.

It will ramp up this week and become deafening following a predictable capitulation this week against one of our rivals.

Matthew Lloyd (IQ 56) โ€ฆ remember he who promotes underage drinking by his school sports team

He is a grub like Barrett and Morris and McClure except he at least played the game

Essendon great Matthew Lloyd believes the Demons have failed to back up their talk of "love" for their teammates and the club from the pre-season with poor performances on the footy field.

With a horror 0-3 start to the season, the Demons look like a shadow of the club's 2021 premiership powerhouse.

The club's off-field culture has taken a serious beating in recent years with a spate of off-field issues creating what some believe to be a hostile environment.

I know Matt through junior footy. He may have played for the Bumbers but I always found him to be friendly and respectful. He gets paid to make headlines and I have always thought he looks incredibly uncomfortable doing it as it doesnโ€™t come naturally for him.

Personally I wouldnโ€™t put him in the same class as McClure, Barrett and Morris.

Lloyd is absolutely right. The whole love theme comes off as completely inauthentic. Goodwin has said his goal for this year is to see the players looking happy and enjoying their football. Do you think they look happy? The supporters sure don't.

How about we earn back some respect after being the league's sideshow for 18 months.

Yes agree Love is not the solution. I think Lloyd picks us as a soft target. Hardly needed to be said given we are 0-3. He is still a Barrett like hater of the Dees.

Compare to guys like Nathan Buckley or Luke Hodge. Both are super impressive with their insights, comments and analysis. Hodge said the word โ€œRespectโ€ should be emblazoned all over the MFC rooms. Respect for each other. Respect for the club. Respect for the jumper. Respect for the fans.

Under fire coach

underperforming players

Temporary president

Temporary CEO with no obvious candidate

No home base to compete in the arms race in home bases

Fan base rightfully unhappy with product

Highest paid players looking to leave last year

Board room power struggles

Legal stoushes

To be fair the media probably have let us off lightly over the last little while.

Any organisation with problems looks for distractions to guide the media away from the real story. The "love" theme is a wonderful distraction because it's something new for the footy media hacks to get excited about.

The real story is obvious, though. We're playing really poorly.

Love?

More like a tough love requirement right now!

Nice guys finish last (except Federer)

Jay Clark suggested that โ€œFritsch tunnelingโ€ was โ€œextremely dangerous and could have put Stewart in a wheelchair. He takes out his legs and flips himโ€. Tiger Riewoldt calls it outrageous and says Fritsch should be suspended for 2 or 3 weeks. Typical media bashing of anything to do with the Dees.

Now Fritsch was frustrated and should have tried to contest albeit too late given the shallow kick. But he didnโ€™t take Stewart legs out, nor did he flip him, nor did Stewart land on his neck or head. Fine was warranted and Fritsch will do better in the future.

Itโ€™s another โ€œRidiculous oversensationalโ€ talk from footy journos behaving as blood thirsty vampires.

So what happened to Toby Greene tunneling Owies, flipping him over and landing on his head?

As dangerous an act as you could see and enormous potential to cause injury.

Not a word anywhere and no penalty.

I canโ€™t believe the boys on the couch kept the criticism reasonably balanced. Said positive things for crying out loud. I think they are starting to feel sorry for us.

I hated Lloyd as a player but as a commentator he's one I actually listen to.

3aw. Lloydโ€™s callout to have Goodwin make a statement this week and drop Fritsch.

So Jacqui Felgate simply asks who theyโ€™ll replace him with as a goalkicker.

Lloydโ€™s reply (as unprepared and uneducated as ever) was โ€ฆ โ€œsomeone from Caseyโ€. Well thatโ€™s a bold claim. He has no answer He offers no understanding of the who and how. He simply says oh well โ€œRoss Lyon dropped Milne and Desanto onceโ€ !!!

What a tool!!!

Devils Advocacy....

He could just as easily be suggesting it doesn't matter who... just drop the Fritter. Can't say I overly disagree

Seems strange for the calls to drop Fritsch to be intensifying when he actually turned in a respectable game on the weekend. Unfortunate that he missed his shots because other than that he clocked 17 disposals, a couple of goal assists, three contested marks and third highest in the team for metres gained. Even managed a bit of chasing and corralling.

He's had a dog of a start to the season but he did at least show some genuine involvement - enough to argue that the worm is turning.

In fact, I'd quietly suggest that our forward line is getting it together as much as possible given the collapse in depth of our midfield.

As for the quality of Lloyd's comments - I'll never know what I really think of him because I just get annoyed at the sight of him. Reminds me of the now ancient movie 'Dave', where the president meets his double and tells him "You're a very handsome man, but wipe that grin off your face. You look like a schmuck."

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sundayโ€™s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this yearโ€™s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last seasonโ€™s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourneโ€™s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
