Doggies played extra well ... that's a good win with great fighting qualities

As for the Blues, they don't handle pressure very well at all. They go quiet

Question:

What's better than the blues getting beaten and going down 0-3?

Answer:

Backing their opponent to win.

Drinks ready. You have to take a shot whenever the “Brave Blues” are mentioned.

I have a cheeky Pinot Gris that should do the trick!!!! ,(I'm going to drink it even if brave Bs isn't mentioned)!!!

Decent last quarter to tune in and watch.

Lingering thought is that I hope hope hope Kalani White can be our Sam Darcy in a few years.

I'll be happy if he is 3/4 as good.

After watching Davidson tonight i reckon we need to get Mentha in asap.

One more game at Casey should be enough. Subject to playing his role and performing well anyway.

Just had a peek at the ladder.

We better win, cause if we lose I advise everyone belonging to the MFCSS committee to chuck a few bucks on a Freo Eagles draw.

How about Geelong?

40,000 capacity at CatPark but only 25k for the Freo game

Pathetic

Did Caro or Dwayne mention it?

I feel like it hasn’t been mentioned in the north game thread (unless I missed it), but same as us now, they don’t have a Nibbler or Gus type player that interrupts the tide from rolling against them.

Their baseline of effort was they did the grunt work like running their heart out to get into space to be an option, applying immense pressure on an opponent or ensuring they win contests when it matters, consistently.

No dropping of heads, just getting the basics done.

Which is more about setting an example of work rate and effort when things get tough to inspire other players, than it is about going for glory. They set standards for other players to follow suit to ensure a team performance.

Our capitulation against North was evidence of a lack of this standard being displayed on field (IMO) which also applies to Carlton.

I don't quite know where we sit right now because if we are trying to change how our offense goes about it, we are at the very least, a work in progress

Requires a buy-in from every player and that's not an easy thing to do. We need to get back to playing as a team

We live in hope

As for Carlton, when opposition teams up the ante, they consistently go missing. It's like they are all looking around for someone else to lead the way

Where as the Doggies tonight were all about total team and getting the job done

When the game was there to be won, the Bulldogs stood up whilst the Blues looked on

As for the pressure meter on any given coach, the heat is going to be applied to Voss way more than Goodwin

If the Blues lose to Collingwood next Thursday, it will be on for young and old at Princes Park

Mind you, North lost their first 4 games in 1975 and were 3 & 6 after round 9 but then went on to win the flag that year

Nice stat. Then again St Kilda's recent years have been woeful and Carlton had 4 years where you could pencil in powerhouse Richmond beating them.

It's easy to forget that winning creates confidence and that losing saps it and often extends winning or losing streaks. Hawthorn and Lions expect to win while Carlton and our Dees almost feel like they'll lose, especially when the other side is coming in the last quarter. The one up side is that things can change fairly quickly. A year ago Hawks were tripping over their shadows.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
