so we've gone from a trio of tall forwards in jvr / jefferson / turner to...one?

Two, AJ comes back for Turner, Fritsch to play as 3rd tall

Full game for Langford please. Still can't believe we omitted him after one game as sub.

Congratulations Harvey Langford. Bounce back for a proper game lad.

Just don’t understand why Melksham goes straight back in with little preparation. This happens far too often with this football club. Spargo last week, Melksham this week. There is a clear favourites list when the selection committee meet.

Did it with Melksham last year and it worked well, nothing to do with favourites list, an experienced player who has previously done defensive forward roles to impact opposition’s ability to intercept

We needed changes and we got them. 3 omissions

T Mac will start fwd if I had to guess.

Looking forward to seeing Hendo on the G and Langford hopefully start

Yes it worked once last year. I’m not a Melksham hater at all. I’m just of the view that match fitness is vitally important before being selected for the firsts. The Suns are running on top of the ground at the moment which means we need everyone to be 100% ready.

I have no issue doing this with Melksham. He is a pro and has the lowest body fat at the club id reckon. could be rusty but by god we could use his kicking and some experience up fwd

Its modern footy, your good players don’t play 2s. May is straight back in as well. The expectation is that the fitness staff have them ready to hit the ground running.

Not to mention being arguably our best field kick.

I think if we are all honest it's a little difficult to get excited about this game. Only two games in and we have unceremoniously lost both home games and are staring down the barrel of another one.

It's a big call but not a stretch to say if we lose this, then our season is done and dusted. Huge response required and we will  ultimately see what this club is made of and who are the players that are committed to the club.

Go Dees. That's the most motivation I can muster. Hope the players can do more.

Regardless we need as many supporters to this one as possible. It's one thing to get demolished by North Melbourne on our home turf  but to get bested by GCS will be a disaster. I think that's fair. I fear what will happen if we turn up against a contender with the same mindset and skill level we had last Sunday.

Alas everything is on the line now. And sure it's early days but these are games we have all foolishly it appears, pencilled in as wins. Well I did at least

Silly me.

I am very excited for the game. It's a chance to redeem ourselves. A chance to work on our game. An opportunity to hopefully watch Langford play a full game. We get to watch 3 hall of fame players, Max,Trac, Clarry play for us again. Melk and May are back. JVR and Fritta have a chance to find form.  Lindsay is playing. There is alot to be excited for imo.

Melksham fits the sub role perfectly this weekend for where he’s at.

Excellent selection.

Thanks JVAM.

Clearly your the person for the job for JV.

Hopefully I will be more positive on the day.

I think the Gws game was hugely disappointing because we were the better team and lost it in the proverbial last minutes. Great to see so many young players perform for us. Plus Giants are a top notch team.

And we will see how North fare in a few months but it's the fumbles , poor tackles , low intensity , poor i50s delivery, inaccuracy, injuriesl...etc. They do seem have  some gun ball getters and their ruck is a beast that humbled poor Max

So it will be an interesting match one way or another . Another loss though will be hard to take and if it happens wait and hear for the noise in the media. It ont just be Demonland calling for Goodys blood. So let's hope we win. Big time.

The North match was an away game.

Given the awful year we had last year I understand why everyone is upset at our loss to North. But a little perspective would be great. Firstly, North have a team of guns and they played very well. Secondly, Gold Coast are also a good side. Given how even the competition is, penciling in wins is not something you can do these days. Just look at what happened with Carlton in round 1 and Geelong in round 2. The success of GWS in 2023 and Hawthorn last year shows that you can start a season badly and come home with a bang. Goody explained at the start of the season that there may be teething issues with the changes they are trying to make in terms of a game plan. So the loss last week shouldn't be a surprise. I think it would serve us all well to take a step back and save the catastrophic thinking.

I get your concerns and there is a risk with an aging Melksham but we are an incredibly dumb football team and he helps our footy smarts immensely.

Billings sub, Melk starts 🤞

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
