I’m sure there will be a lot of pile on comments and questions this week so I will contribute something positive. I thought Kade Chandler played a very good game this week. 25 possessions and 3 goals. Was our only shining light.

Do we put this down to missing personal in May, Pickett and Windsor or do we simply not have the personal to play what has become the template for successful teams these days. Getting goals from our fwd line as ever is an issue but it feels like it’s gone beyond that now, has the game gone past our much vaunted midfield and backline as well

With Lever going off with an ankle injury and perhaps destined for a stint on the sidelines and May's return indeterminate are we cooked in defence?

Do you think the bombers will net one decent player with the first and second overall picks in the 2025 draft?

That loss was so deflating. We're 0-2 now coming up against a rested Gold Coast who will be tasting blood in the water. Is it panic stations at 0-3? What about after a trip down the highway to Geelong and potentially 0 and 4 before we head to Gather Round in Adelaide to face off against the other wooden spoon hopeful the Bombers. What happens at 0 and 5? I won't mention the match after that. You get the picture. It's bleak.

With May, Pickett, Windsor, Melksham, and McVee out and little standout form from Casey are cracks in our depth being exposed?

Our disposal was absolutely amateur hour causing damaging turnovers. What made it all the worse was there were many occasions where a player with the ball showed absolutely zero awareness of their surroundings and was caught holding the ball. So disheartening and I just can't see us climbing out of this hole and it's only Round 2.

I have a bad feeling that we are in for a lot of pain this season. It has 2019 written all over it and I fear we'll only win a handful of game. Our delivery into the forward line is still horrendous. We do not play to the advantage of our key forwards and the only time we were able to put it down someone's throat was when they were able to hit Charlie Comben lace out.

Goody alluded to Max having personal issues in regards to his performance. All that aside do you think we should have gone with a genuine 2nd ruck this week? Granted AJ was out suspended but do you think it's time that Max had some real support?

I thought we'd go Top Four this year. I'm thinking Bottom Four now. I reckon Anzac Eve will decide the wooden spoon.

If there is a silver lining it may be that this year most of our squad got through most of the preseason, particularly the intensive running work earlier on. In 2019 we had a lot (11 or so?) players missing chunks of the preseason rehabbing surgeries, etc.

While we've lost Mcadam and AMW for the season, both have been replaced on our list, and neither were best-22 locks (though AMW was threatening a solid year, sadly). So hopefully when the Kozzys, McVees, Melkys, Kolts, etc. return, we'll have a reasonably healthy list with a decent fitness base.

But like 2019, if we run off the rails early and confidence goes, it could be ugly. Ugh.

Can we get Oscar Piastri in on a mid-season transfer? At least he knows how to lead...

Still on an F1 note, it's hard to win with a squad full of rookies.  Just like the Dees, all the F1 rookies had terrible gamedays on Sunday, too.

You're right Essendon will now tank hard.

Is this year's draft list deep?

I was travelling and (happily as it turns out) unable to watch or listen - absolutely devastated to see the final scores.
Is there a simple explanation?  Effort? Skills? Game plan? Fitness?

What has happened to Frittata?

And it has been pointed out the we have lost 7 of our last 8 games!  Can’t win with Clarrie and Tracc having their best preseasons

Games likes today shame the entire Melbourne Football Club. I thought we were supposed to be improving this year?

Those 6 goals in 6 minutes by the Kangaroos against us were totally embarrassing.

While there was some absolute howlers by the umpires. The Demons looked like a bottom 4 side and not a top 4 side.

What can Simon Goodwin do to rectify these serious issues?

Alarm bells are certainly ringing in contrast to the phones in the Melbourne membership department which shall not be ringing much at all this week!

Do you think we can get our pending top 4 pick back if we ask nicely?

Only if we send Petraca or Oliver to Tullamarine.

I was going to leave this one and just listen in but after what I've just seen I felt the need to post. Just saw a video of some demons supporters hurling abuse at the Dees as they walked off the ground.

WTF Dee's supporters? We are better than that surely? I know we saw a bit of that in the dark years but I honestly thought we were past that. I'm Sure no one one this good forum could possibly be so dense as to participate in this behaviour.

I understand frustration at losses. Believe me, I didn't love that game either but to hurl abuse at the players who looked completely heartbroken at what had just occurred left me feeling sick. Obviously things need to be fixed, possibly things going on to affect their performance also? There is more to life than footy. Get a grip!

I know I'll be unpopular but I really think fitness played a big part in todays game.

I think North outplayed us most definitely. But pretty much all game and especially in the third quarter just about every one of our kicks was short, every handball was to a team mates feet. We're not the most skilled side but we're certainly not THAT bad. I saw half our side completely gassed each quarter with only Chandler and Oliver who seemed fit enough to impact consistently and run the game out.

Again I know I'll be ridiculed but I felt like the loss was compounded by the fact we weren't fit enough for this game resulting in poor disposal, lack of spread, unforced turnovers, not working hard for each other in space (especially forward of the ball).

Shouldn't ever be an excuse but was obvious to me today that North were much more match fit for this one after we slogged away last week in the wet.

Hoping they get recovery and conditioning right this week. God help us.

We're supposed to be evolving the gameplan and the ball movement.

So why, oh why, did we pick a game against an apparent bottom 4 team on a small ground under the roof to go back to long and wide kicking? Skills and execution were awful but surely these tactics didn't help.

I also heard several times on the replay the commentators referring to the hard game last week and fatigue. It was a gruelling game but I can't remember a time where the effects of a tough Rd 1 game were mentioned so much the week after. How are you supposed to sell hope to the fans if the team is knackered after Rd 1?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
