My son did two, same knee but came back strongly, Good luck AMW BIG FAN OF YOURS CHEERS P.F

Having this happen less than 24 hours after the SSP period has closed is incredibly frustrating.

My heart goes out to Andy Moniz-Wakefield. ❤️

Hopefully the Demons can apply for an exemption from the AFL to top up our list. It may not be successful, but we may as well at least try.

So sad as he was just starting to make a name for himself playing some great footy.

im sure the club will stick by him and bounce back bigger than ever next year, he is still young so a big career with the Dee’s will just have to wait one season.

Rotten luck, all the best, Andy! Here's to a fast, strong, and speedy recovery. I dare say it's season over, but remember Docherty returned in 6 months last year! I doubt they would play him anyway, but you never know!

Ugh, last minute of the game no less. Shattered for AMW, was showing some great signs.

He’s young, he’ll learn a lot on the sidelines about himself. I’ve no doubt he’ll end up a best 22 player in the years ahead. Hopefully Tracc takes him under his wing and helps guide him through the recovery.

Hopefully the AFL will see sense and open a new SSP window for the next fortnight, in order to cover any injuries incurred during the pre season.

I have absolutely zero confidence the AFL will do anything close to using some common sense. Andrew Dillon and Laura Kane are so uniquely awful that it boggles the mind. Pair of absolute nincompoops.

Fair summation

Significant loss for the side. These depth players are so important considering you play 23 games plus finals. Hopefully the new ssp recruit can contribute

You make a good point, but…as Carlton have lost their first round pick in Jagga Smith for the season, the AFL may be more likely to come to the party.

Maybe there is some hope of this getting up since it would help Carlton.  Any C'wood or Essendon players injured recently?

So the clubs are adopting my suggestion/proposal.

As I said, it is totally unfair for some clubs to be playing their match sims after the SSP period closed, while others played earlier.

All clubs should be treated the same and all play earlier or later.

I think all clubs have now played their match sims, so what is so bad with extending the SSP to say Tuesday, 4 days longer.

Moreover, why is there a cut off date before the first match of the season at all?  I presume there may be a rationale, but I've no idea what it could be.

Good call.

I have high hopes for this one.

Hopefully it will harden his resolve and he bounces back even better.

Get well soon AMW.

Poor bugger. Happened right in front of me, and I obviously feared the worst.
He’ll need the full 12 months, and a conservative build it will be, but he’ll be back.

All 3 ligaments will have ruptured. ACL will be grafted (and done as soon as his swelling is controlled), MCL repaired and same PCL. There may be meniscal damage that they just haven’t bothered reporting, and there WILL be joint surface bruising, which will dictate a large part of the conservative approach.

If ever the AFL needed motivation to alter their list supplement policy, it’s now.

How can the AFL cut the SPP(Feb 19) before the first official match of the AFL season.

Which league around the world would endorse this type of garbage? 💩

Common sense here AFL, allow us to bring someone in.

Cal Twomey’s article suggests the rationale to cutting it off as early as possible is to allow lower league clubs to know who is actually going to be playing for them, without fear that at any minute their players might be picked up by an AFL club.

Surely the end of February/start of March isn’t too early for leagues which don’t start until the end of March? And even if it is, surely today (for example) is practically no different to Friday, but allows us and the other clubs who had their practice matches on Saturday to get in before the cut off?

Frustrating in our case where Culley or George are clear options. Both are aligned to our reserves already meaning it wouldn't impact lower leagues apart from Casey now finding a replacement for one of them.

I guess we could have a clear conversation with Culley (if he's the man) and say you're onto the list in the mid season draft.

Then we can put him on a program and have him ready to go by mid year.

Only problem is playing time. Maybe we sign him for Casey in the meantime, so we get him into the program?

I think he is signed with Casey

He’s at Casey, hence why he’s been training with us all summer when we didn’t have a list spot until McAdam went down.

The problem with stashing someone until mid year is it’s a draft so if Culley is as good as some seem to think he might need to tank his stock somehow.

I also think we’ll look closely at defenders both now (if we get a pick which seems unlikely) and at mid year.

Has the AFL ever made the logical decision at the time it’s most indicated/needed/deserved? They always hang onto it for a while (season or two), before then making the blindly obvious change. Mind-numbingly frustrating.

Sadly the AFL seems to be more focused on a whole raft of non football agendas these days rather than being laser focused on what’s best for the sport

It’s forgotten the sole purpose for which it exists - a common problem with so many organisations these days

He can also get taken by other clubs first. Assuming we're playing well there might be 4-5 other teams with spots who could pick before us.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road again and this may be the last roll of the dice to get their 2025 season back on track as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
